removing headliner....

In an effort to keep a thread on topic in the appearance section, I created this one.

Can anyone give good suggestions as to the best way to remove a headliner.

(PS.. I'll post how I removed it as soon as I have more time. I'm in a bit of a time-crunch right now..)

to do this the right way, the dash needs to come off and plastic pillar trims and the rear window carpet and the rear seat side rests.

U need to unbolt the seatbelt from the side pillars (B pillars to be exact).

All this done, remove the 6 trims that go on the A pillar (Near the front window) Side pillar and the rear pillar (Near the rear window) along with the small trim that connects bwt them.

Unscrew the dome light and the sun visors and the rear view mirror.

THen ur left with just the headliner.

Pull the black trim on the headliner near the front window outward as in towards the front of the car, this will make ur headliner break loose in the front, then go back and pull the headliner on the rear of the car pulling it towards the rear of the car.

NOTE: THe hardest part is removing the rear of the headliner cause of the nasty clips that hold them. U might get some just incase they break.

Thanks smuf. Only diff. between what he said and with the 2dr/hatchs is that I didn't have to take off the dash. I removed the A-piller cover (which also covers the roofline where the door shuts. Then took off the whole plastic interior panel from the rear. Then took off the B&C pillar cover (one big ass piece.) I also had to remove the window pop/props before taking off this panel. Then proceed as smuf said with removing the actual headliner. In the coupe and hatch, there's 2 plastic retainer clips (not really clips) right at the B pillar that have to be pulled out. Take those off, and all the "oh-shit" handles and the headliner should begin to hang. Then just pull it out and do what you want with it.

forgot to mention the handles and the plastic retrainer on the B pillar cause i never put em back. hehe mine does not even have the rear clips. but they are just fine with the side supports.

it should not be hard. just remove whatever is in the way of the roof and the headliner. sorry about the funky answer, but u know i only dealt with Dx and LX headliners.

I don't think you can swap those. Maybe one from a coupe could work but not a sedan.

Damn, bringing this one back from the dead huh? Anyway, like carot said, the sedan is a no-go in a hatch. As for coupe, I'm real weary of that one too, as the rear roofline is a bit different between the hatch and coupe. Best bet, stick with a hatch headliner.

If yours is torn up, or just dirty, I can give pointers on re-upholstering it as I did.

what all has to be done in order to install any other headliner from 2 and 4 door accords in a lxi hatchback?

the headliner is wider,you need to take the old one out from the hatch,then lay the one from the other car on top of it and mark and trim everything. there is other stuff too if I remember right,but the best way is to lay one on top of the other. when I did mine,i removed the vinal which destroysa the cardboard,then I fiberglassed the cardboard before covering it. I'll hunt down my pictures.

it can be done,you just have to trim the four door headliner to fit. thats whats in my dx hatch ,it's a lot of work,but it's doable

here you go. this is out of a 4 door sedan,in my 86 dx hatch. the one before this one came from a two door sedan

ok so i want to install my maplight which will require the headliner in the front to be pulled back a lil.. is there an easy way to do this without pulling the whole headliner? just remove the A pillar and front visors and i should be ok?
