Working with Carbon Fiber, I need help!!!

Well I really want to learn how to work with the material before I buy this kit on ebay.

I would like to know how many layers of CF you need to make stuff like hoodscoops, gas doors, stuff like that.

I thought you used 1 layer and added the resin and then the hardener but I don't know for sure. I would like your guy's help with this since I figured there was probably at least one person that would know.

i am sure there is more that one layer. the one layer is too thin, i think you may want at least 3-4 layers.

I would think that there would be instructions that tell you how much of what, ask the seller

I have worked with carbon fibers sheets before and it looked like it was only one layer. I highly doubt your going to get a good turn out from this kit. I thought the process was more involved than this. You can buy the sheets and they are very flexible when you heat them up so you can mold it easily. But the sheets are not cheap from what i have seen in the past.

I have been working with fiberglass and there is the first layer, resin/hardener. Now with the fiberglass there is a thicker layer that you put on after the first one and I imagine it's the same as with carbon fiber. By the way, it is a goat to keep it formed while drying and takes a long time to do so.

how would you make it shinny??? spray the resin on?? sand and clear coat???

I got the stuff on ebay a while back but there are different types some come in hard sheets and some come in soft sheets that rool up. So it depends on what you want but i would find more information before you waste $60 on that kit. but someone else sold hard sheets but it varies in appearance so shop around.

That's the stuff that procarparts uses for the gauge bezels then. I guess I would need a hard sheet and then heat it up to make my hoodscoop. Or do that kit.

Depending on how srtong you want it. I would reccomend two layers of thick 19oz.
and two layers of thin 5.7oz.

So it looks like I would need two different weights of carbon fiber for my hoodscoop that I want to make. I don't know why you could just do like 4 or 5 layers of the same weight to make it strong enough.
