well... it could literally be a million things. are you sure all your wires were hooked up right? i fixed a similar problem when my brother incorrectly installed a stereo in his old datsun (he put the positve wire to the positive terminal, and ground the negative directly to the chassis, plus he spliced a bunch of wires together... didnt bother to find out what or why). anyway, it could also be the deck itself. since its from an old prelude, ill assume its used. did it work ok before you installed it? if it did, then youve either got some stereo lines crossed, or you dont have enough power to the unit itself.
Are you sure it's a Honda stereo?? Sounds like it's a pre-amp only output deck... Definately a problem with the deck.Originally posted by 88accord2se

either the radio is bad or you have a short in the wires

Or it could be a Honda Bose head unit that's a pre-amp only.
Usually don't preamp only radios use RCA's????? It definitely sounds like wires grounding out or an internal problem like a bad output IC
nope from the sound of it , since it's from a prelude. which they porbaly all have amps.
you more than likely gotten a radio the is preamped only.

The newer 98 plus Preludes have an amp to the rear speakers... the only ones I know that have some sort of an amplifier.Originally posted by accordlxi2.0

Since 88Accord2SE is not responding at all, we'll never know what he has, for sure.

another vote for preamp outs.
And I thought I'd been smoking too much crack,
I dunno of any other way to run preamp except RCA's, and the old style DIN connectors. Could have just been me though
preamps can be run using regular wires, it's just another way for the oem to make things tougher to tamper with.
I'm sure they were'nt RCA preouts, unless someone has wired them in without you knowing.Originally posted by NOAHS88accord
