    Squeeling Alt Belt

I've got a wicked alternator belt squeel with a brand new belt. The cars' got 300K km so I take it the pulleys are glazed. I've also tried the belt conditioner spray but that only lasts for about a 100km. Once the engine is warmed up the squeeling subsides a bit. Has any one got any ideas on removing the glaze. I don't want to spend money on pulleys right now.

Check the tension on the belt. It may be loose.

Or overtightened such as mine was at first. 1/2 inch test with a quarter and a metal ruler will give you a good measure of the tension.

I've tried different tensions. I'm afraid to go any tighter...I'm under a half inch play now.

I had the squeal with the belts being too loose and got the battery light on when the belts were too tight.

Ya..its the belt. If I spray it with belt conditioner its quiet for a while. Too bad they're serpentine belts. Otherwise I could just sand the pulleys. This is sooo annoying
