Souds like fun! Yea I know what you are talking about the EGR pipe. Finally after heating it up and putting penetrating oil on it, I got it off with a pipe wrench. The nut was too soft and a wrench would just start to strip it. Well you should double up on gaskets with the headers. I'm having problems with it leaking at the downpipe.

if you can cut the egr off, wouldnt that mean carb 3g,s could use the DC header?

I belive you are talking about the air suction pipe. By cutting off the EGR pipe won't that fuck up your idle if you don't have the EGR. But is there is any performance you can get out of it by not having it.

The purpose of an egr (exaughst gas reirculation) is to put exaughst gasses into the intake manifold, reducing the combustion temperature and lowering emission levels. My theory is that the more fresh oxygen in the intake the better. That is why there are several kits available to remove the systems that are labled "for off road use only". I have removed the Egr on my car and several others. I have noticed a few subtile improvements like more throttle response and improved gas milage. The RX-7 loved having it off. That is just my 2 cents.

i'd love to take mine off in TN. We dont have emissions (though we might in a while). My egr light keeps popping up (well my check engine light, but same code) so i'd like to remove mine too. Is there a how to on this?

I could take it off but I'm not to sure if it will be worth my time to do it.

First of all I have a carb so I am not sure how a FI setup will respond. I removed my egr along with the vaccum lines and air suction tube. After removing the egr pipe I cut the pipe at about 4 inches from each side. Then I used a propane torch and a bench clamp to crush the pipe and fold it back, then welded it shut. I then put the two ends back onto the inteke manifold and the header. Then I put a vaccum plug on the egr valve and that was it. You could get a large bolt to plug the manifold and header, I could not find one the correct size. You could also cut a metal plate to replace the egr valve on the manifold. After doing all this I noticed a stonger Idle, more response especially below 3000 rpm and a bit better gas mileage. If anyone is interested I can take some pics and make a howto.

I probably will give it a try. It shouldn't be to hard to block it but now my PGM-FI light will be on all the time.

but then if something else goes wrong you'd never know. I got my egr off with a cresent wrench, rubber mallet and wd-40. and with the cat I just removed everything after the downpipe and had it all custom made/installed

Well if I can find some scrap steel lying around I will cut it to repalce to holes in the manifold left by the EGR and the pipe.

Yea I just took off that bracket when I installed mine. The damn holes didn't even match up to start with.

    PB Blaster!

If you would have used some of this miracle spray on those bolts before you started work, you woldn't even have needed to take your car to a mechanic to get those bolts loose.

Well if you don't have emissions you can plug the EGR pipe. You get a little better performance, gasmilage and better throtle responce since there isn't burnt gas being sent back through the intake.

Is there a way to block off the egr and somehow not make the pgmfi light come on? What if you just left the egr valve on and just blocked to pipe at the ex manifold and a little block plate at the in manifold?

Well you would have to have it still running through the EGR valve and the vacum hose. It is doable but way too much work. I just took the bulb out of the PGM-FI warning light.
