Suspension set-up question- 4 lug to 5 lug???

You know how guys with civic's and non type-r integras switch there suspension to type-r or prelude, basically making it 5 lug...

Could this be done on our cars??? My friend and I were thinkin about trying it so i was wondering if anyone has tried it and if it is even possible?

I don't think it will work, because if it was possible on our cars someone would done it long time ago.

actually, I think it'll work if you do it right. I know that Yasu changed at least the rear lug pattern to 4x113 from the 4x100 stock. He had a machine shop make him a new hub based on the original.

I'm not too sure why you would want to do this though? Could you shed some light here? Only reason I ask is b/c even the older 78-93 rustangs used a 4x100 pattern, and that was with a V8 under the hood. There are many many members here that have high hp numbers, and also many Civic and Teg owners that are pulling in real high numbers and low et's all running on 4x100. If it's a strength issue, I wouldn't worry. But if it's a curiosity issue, you just want to see, or just want to do it; I'll support you 100% and will stand behind my statement that it CAN be done.

For one it would be all wheel disc brakes, and the rotors and calipers would be far better upgrades then lxi or sei brakes so that is one reson, and then type-r suspension is made to handle very aggressively. It would be more for looks, unless I turned my car into a race car, but the suspension would provide a stiffer and tighter ride along with better handling in cornering. They weight would be about the same if not a little heavier, but it would be a nice upgrade.

There must be more advantages to it for type-r's are more performance oriented then even gsr's or civic si's, so I'm sure Honda knows what the advantages are.

No one has probably tried for it is an expensive suspension to buy. In Oregon the cheapest you will find it for is $1100, and thats not including type-r wheels.

I know of alot of cars around here that have done it on tegs and civics but it would be cool to roll up with an 88 lxi with a type-r suspension set up, but then I'll have to get new rims, but I have a friend with an extra set of type-r rims in white so I could use those and be one of a kind...

the type R suspension would probably be pretty costly to get, and all of the suspension geometry would be pretty hard to setup right in a different car, but if ya have the money, it'd be cool as hell, lol, but if you just wanna change to a 5 lug pattern, i think that you could do that without a ton of trouble

If better brakes are the case, then it would be easier and better to switch to 4 x 114.3. The 91-97 wagons use that bolt pattern and come with huge brakes in the front which are actually the same size as the Type R and NSX. The NSX caliper can actually be bolted onto a wagon. I bet there would be a good chance that the spindles from a 1st gen Legend could be adapted to fit 3rd gens.

If my friend and I "come across" type-r suspension were gonna try it, it should work, and it would be sick as hell to have 5 lug suspension on an 88 Lx-i not to mention huge brakes and a really nice ride quality, plus then I can just get some type-r gun metal rims and just throw honda caps on them or get a set of civic type-r rims...

So you're talking about switching the whole suspension, not just the hubs from 4bolt to 5 bolt?
