Alarm - Can't enter program mode... any suggestions?

I have an SEC-100 Alpine alarm... After hooking everything up I still can't get into the programming mode.

Everything else works, doors lock/unlock, impact sensor works, ignition kill works, lights, valet mode, siren... Just that stupid programming mode...

Basically according to the instructions you are supposed to "Hold the valet switch for 1 second and then press the Mode button on the remote within 1 second" so you can set up all the features like impact sensor levels, active/passive arm, etc.
I can't get it and it is frustrating the hell out of me. Any info?
