why doesn't my car go beyond 80???

I have an 88 accord lx with 120,000 miles, which nothing compared to how much mileage other engines have. Anyways, i drive on the highway and I floor the gas pedal yet I still can never pass 80mph. what is wrong with my 3g?

Try posting this in the technical forum. You might get some answers there. Sorry, I really can't tell you what's wrong with your car.

You should sell cats. I feel like a fuel filter salesman sometimes.

Also the air filter is a big cause. I guarentee it is dirty.

Timing could be way off. The belt may be a couple of teeth off.

Hell yea. I got a 3 day ban for being a post whore. So I have to make up for lost time. I am burning the late night THC oil. This time I am doin it legit with real responses, not just wasted posts.

This guy should check the tire pressure and make sure the brakes are not dragging.

check your timing first off. also filters. either change them all yourself or go get an oil change and replace them all. try that see if that works. if not then check your plugs and even your distributer

are there any noises comming from the car? exhaust? engine? intake? roll down the window and listen at low speeds and high speeds. try to get up along a wall or a sound barrier on the high way and listen to the sound bouncing off.
come back and tell us what you find.

    lol@ THC oil

Well if you car doesn't go that fast it can be a couple things, especially w/ the carbureted models

    1. clogged air filter or fuel filter, bad fuel pump; you should notice poor performace at high RPM in any gear

    2. vacuum system leak, make sure the vacuum secondary on the carb is opening, make sure the "A" "B" and "C" lines that go from the top of the carb to the 1 black device mounted near the fuse box are all connected.

    3. if you have an automatic low fluid can cause problems especially at high speeds.

    4. your brakes aren't fully releasing (not likely)
