    Winter Rubbers

For those of us that have to live through heavy snowfalls and treacherous winter conditions...what are your favourite winter rubbers?

(I am in seach of some and would like some input from fellow 3g's)

Well most likely studded. I had a set of studded on the steelies but when I swap my brakes I can't use them anymore.

    HAHA, good one jester...

I have used Cooper Cobra GT Radials for the last two years... I only slid once with no tread on the tires. I just got brand new ones and no problems whatsoever.... in Wisconsin

nothing beats the bridgestone blizzak. other then that i would recommend the nokian hakkapalita wr, its an all weather tire. its a certified snow tire that you can drive all year on. its also an excellent rain tire.

Well what stuff do they have for 17's. I have checked localy and they don't have a great choice for a snow or studded tires.

yeah, I agree with the other guys Bryan, the Nokian Hakkapellita is the best tire I've seen. I'm borrowing a set from Steve (88Lxi68) right now, and they're real quiet, and grip like none other in rain. No snow yet, but when I buy myself a set, I'll be more then happy to take on any amount of snow.

I honestly would not use a 17 in winter. 15 is the biggest I'd feel confident with on the 3G. Why not put the 17's away for the winter, and pick yourself up a set of 14" steelies from a local junkyard and slap some serious winter tires on there. Much safer (IMO) and keeps the 17's looking nice.

Although Nokians may be the best around, I may have to wait for a little bit longer on those because of the price. Just the name hakkapalita takes me away...lol. Thanks guys.

One other thing, I did ask this on that one ebay thread on 3g, but does anyone know the se-i alloy diameter...5 1/2 inch or 6 inches? Cuz if its 5 1/2, then they will allow for 185/65 R14, but if 6 inches, then only the stock 190/60 R14's. But anyways.

Well I reall don't care too much about my 17's. My 17's are not reall that great of wheel to start with or real flashy. I plan on getting a set of nice 16" that are just for summer driving. I have the 14" alloys but the tread is real bad and I don't want to use them. Besides the winters are not real bad her I really need a tire that grips good in ice/rain.

I seem to be headnig for the nordic ice tracs - part of the reason is because of price. Although I realize that its most likely what you pay for is what you get, but at this point, I am glad to have some rather than none at all.

    Thanks for all your input.
