88-89 Automatic Accord Recall Information (11/3/03)

I was surfing Fark today, and thought maybe I'd have a cheap fix for my ignition problem, but it seems this is only for automatic Accords ...
    http://www.local6.com/automotive/2606852/detail.html

Honda says that nearly 652,000 of its vehicles may have a problem that causes them to roll even when they're in park with no key in the igniton.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received reports of four injuries, 28 crashes and 169 complaints about the problem, according to online reports.

Several models are affected, including 1988-89 Honda Accords, 1999 Odysseys, 1999 Acura TLs, 1997-99 Acura CLs and the 2002 CR-V.

The NHTSA says metal particles in the key cylindar can interfere with the interlock lever, making it possible to take out the key without shifting to park.

The NHTSA says consumers who want more information should call (888) DASH-2-DOT.
Thought I'd pass that along. If it is better suited to "Technical," or somewhere else, please move the thread accordingly. Heh.

Yea it's a typo -- according to the lil article in this mornings newspaper, it's 98-99 Accords that are affected.

Well, I was looking at an 88 accord Lxi yesterday, the guy gave me the key and I tried to start it, it wouldn't turn over, becasue the Tranny was in Reverse, that's exactly the problem that the article is refering to. being able to turn the car off and remove the key without being placed in park.. just FYI

BTW that LXI is still for sale, $1850 obo, 135K miles, sedan, auto, sunroof, in Alabama. Maroon Outside, Black and Tan inside, Factory stereo, in decent shape, the seats are pretty dirty, no rust, no AC, needs drivers mirror, dings here and there. Just passing the info on. It's not mine, but if you wanna give the guy a call PM me and i;ll get his # for you.

I thought it a little strange that there were all these new cars there, and 88-89 Accords. Heehee. Guess someone ought to lock this thread.

The fuel filler recall was only on the 86-87 models. there is not one on the 88-89's
