    Potential source for B20A's

    Hi folks,

I have been having a somewhat limited dialog with a company called FlashOptions (www.flashoptions.com) regarding the B20A. I've attached the email conversation below and I'd like your feedback. It sounds like they might have the right motors at a good price, but it does not look like I will be able to tell for sure without actually buying one.

    So a couple questions:

Anyone heard of these folks and know their reputation?

If they sent a JDM B20A5, how hard would it be to sell it off to a Prelude owner?

Any other suggestions as to how to get proof this is the right motor?

    Gregg

    Hi,

I am looking for a JDM Accord B20A with a 5 speed transmission. This engine
was used in the 86-89 Accord 2.0SI and it is not the same as the Prelude
    B20A.

    Thanks,

    Gregg

What is your price on the Accord B20A with a 5 speed transmission, shipped
to Portland, Oregon, USA (zip - 97045)?

Is it possible to get pictures of the motor or the serial number?

    Thanks,

    That is a good price.

My only concern is getting the correct engine since there are 2 motors with
the B20A number and they do not interchange.

Do you have the number for the transmission? That will tell for sure if the
    motor is the Accord B20A.

I am definitely interested in buying one of these if I can be assured of
    getting the right motor.

    Thanks,

    Gregg

I am still pushing on this one. I replied back asking for the tranny number again. We'll see if I can get some better info.

If there are other folks out there that are seriously interested in buying the B20A, maybe you could e-mail these folks and request information like I did. If enough people start asking, it might put it on their radar and get some better attention.

If I was comfortable that I could re-sell a B20A5 for at least a big chunk of what I paid for it, I might take the risk of buying one.

Pretty good price but I have seen better (B18c1 for $700, wiring ECU, everything, minus the tranny.)

I have bounced a few more messages back and forth with these guys. I am still trying to get them to cough up a transmission number. I figure if they come up with the right one (B2K5 or F2K5) then it's a good bet they have the correct B20A.

I'll post if I get an answer.

They might be full of it and just trying to sell some supposely manual trannys and when you complain they will say has sold as is.

That's one of the reasons I have not told them what numbers I expect to see on the transmission. If they come up with the right number, it greatly improves the odds of them actually having one.

No matter how you slice it, there is a risk when buying something like a used engine from overseas.

After several more e-mails, here is the final response I got:

"Sorry we check it's the prelude clip"

    "Thank You!"

    So, that's that. Oh well.

Yeah I have emailed and called these guys and it is the engine out of the Preludes (JDM 2G). I am about to order this motor. It is the gold top B20A (just in case someone wants to know). All I have to get now is the ECU for the swap. Anyone have any ideas to get one?

Are you ordering it from flashoptions.com? last I heard from them, they said they could not get it.

As for the ECU, take a look at this thread:

    https://www.3geez.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5437

They talk about using the 90-91 Prelude SI ECU.

Keep us posted on how this goes, I'm real curious if they can really come through with the right B20A.

Yeah the motors are practically the same. The only real differences are the valve covers. The Prelude has a Gold top and the Accord has the Black top.
I am ordering from Flashoptions.com. They said they have some in stock and can ship it to me when they get the money. I have heard that the B20A5 ECU will work. I have a friend they has a spare 89 Si 4ws w/ the b20a5 and said he would let me use the ECU cause he cant use it for anything. So I will prob use it. I was just seeing if I could get ahold of one just for the heck of it. I will keep you guys posted. I will call again 2maro and check the status of my motor just to be sure.

Did you order it with a 5 speed? and mind if I ask what they charged you, with shipping?

Finally, if you do talk to someone, please get their name and let us know. It's always helpful to have a contact.

    he IS right.

Most people here don't know shit about those engines, never seen one in person but still give advice to others. Most of the time they are wrong.

People should just use the search button or the FAQ. EVERYTHING is there and clearly written (with my superior french canadian grammar).

I used to correct the information in every thread/post but I got tired.
