Well it has been determined that the old head on my car has come leaking valve stem guides....who cares I have 3 new heads!
BUT..one of the new heads is getting DONE RIGHT and I want new stem guides!
SO....how do I replace them?
I have had the engine apart before and these are pretty much the only thing I dont know how to remove?!?!!?
Is there a metal piece in there that wears or is that rubber seal all there is. What exactly makes up the stem guide and how is it replaced!

you can't do it yourself, you have to take the cylinder head to the shop.
they have to heat it in the oven and use special tool to punch it out and put new guides in.

You can do valve guide seals yourself. With engine still in car. If your engine smokes on startup,or after it gets hot,the seals itself may be the reason why. I've had this happen to me after using synthitic oil when engine was raised on convential oil. It began to smoke. This job is detailed. But if you already tackeled other major jobs its also rewarding when your done and engine doesn't smoke no more and everyone thought your engine was cashed when you SAVED it.
