    ??? @ 3000 rpm...

    What's up guys and gals...

I just wanted to know why the car has great performance only after 3000 rpm? My performance is iffy at anything under that. Sometime it stays under 3000 when i'm not blasting off from a standstill for a little while and it seems like i have to mash it down to the floorboard to get it past 3000....

What could the issue be? Can I get better performance at a lower RPM? Do I need a tune up?

Thanks for reading my first post on the new board.

Its called 2 liters of displacement. Even though the engine has more torque than some of the civic engines ...fact is ....it's still meager. I've never seen a four cylinder you can make power with without reving the hell out of it. Thats why your car has a considerable short stroke. If you want gobs of torque at low speeds you might as well get a durmax diesel. There are still things you can do though. There are several performance parts out there that will help but understand that still your car will only make power high in the rpm band.....jteuton
In the end...it doesn't even matter.

every car has something called a power band where is reaches it most powers !
any way after 3000 rpm the carb opens its second barel and gives all the power ! i think our maximum hp is at 5500 rpm !

if you want the high power on your ride ! just take the gears to 5500 rpm and then on the next gear it will be above 3000 rpm !

for normal driving shift @ 3000 rpm ! ( before the second barel ! )

What's the exact engine speed when the second barrel opens? I always shift at 3500 rpm. If that's enough to open the second barrel, I'm wasting gas that way. Jesus, I can't afford to do that.

below 3000 rpm ! you get the best mpg ! ( miles per gallon )
you'll notice that 100 km/h which is approx 60 mph is at 2750 rpm in 5th gear ! this way you get the best mpg !

2.0l vs 1.6l we have a bigger displacement is is not the displacement its the technology. you take a 1.6 1.5 86 through 89 civic and they have the same type of technology our cars are faster. the thing is different computers different cams pistons the internals of the engine all displacement is is the size of the motor.
hmm and you thought the reverse polarity of the sun made you loose to a 3rd gen accord

    Thumbs up

After reading some of the post on this thread earlier today, I've been gunning my car from work to home. It's hard to keep the car above 3000RPM in city streets. I had to keep braking, duh!

I finally got to an open freeway and the car sure kicks butt at 3000RPMs and above. I tried to taunt a few other cars but nobody took my old Accord seriously. I can't wait to let this engine breath more with a better exhaust.

I have a manual tranny DX so all the CARB 'second barrel' stuff applies :super:

Hmm, with my the stock carb I know the power band is between 3000-4000. Now with the weber carb the power band seem to be a bit higher @3500 and up, but I think that may have to do with my linkage tweaking. But when it opens up, I can feel it and hear it.
