    B20A dyno chart.

Does anyone have a dyno chart for a stock B20A?

I need one to settle a debate about how the new Civic Si is not that great.

however much i hate to admit this, im sure the dyno sheet for a new SI will show it beats a b20.

Maybe, but its not going to be an ass kicking or anything. They both peak at 160hp.

true, maybe the higher torque rating with the B20 will give it the lead it needs.

Doesnt really matter if the si wins or not.....the jdm b20a that kroy is referring to for his example is the 86-89 model in the jdm 3g's. the 86 jdm engine vs the 03 engine.......as long as the 86 engine is remotely close it still shows that even 15 years earlier honda had the option of power equivilent to vtec engines

DuDe! The first vtec engine was invented in 1988.. Which was the B16a. It was only offered in Civics.

Some dude from cali, dyno tested his JDMB20a and he has about 130hp & 120ft.lbs tq.

Yeah but that is running the wrong ECU and they have upgraded to the prelude ecu and said it has improved because of the fuel maps. Plus if your not gonna get 160Hp to the wheels on a dyno anyhow. I dont think the B20A will take a B16A in stock trim because the vtec and the higher reving capability. I guess we will have to wait and see how they do when everyone finishes since there are a bunch of us in the process. I do plan on putting my 2nd B20A in another coupe in almost stock for to see how it does and it will be used as a daily driver. One thing B20A owners need is a SAFC to adjust the fuel maps to get it back to where it should be.

Rob, can you expand a bit on the SAFC comment? I am still gathering parts for my B20A and I have been trying to figure out the best way control fuel and spark (without costing a fortune).

Although they did release a version (a prototype if you will) of what the world now knows as VTEC under a 1st generation B16 (not the same engine used in the 99 & 2000 Civic Si) in 1989 (not 1988) in the DA6 Integra (not Civic) for the JDM market only. Officially, Honda introduced Vtec to the world market in the 1990 NSX.

That's our history lesson for the day. Thank you.

I don't think Jester meant that VTEC came out 15 years after our cars were made but that Honda was making cars 15 years ago that made comparable power to the VTEC engines of today.

I'm sure you're right about the B20A hitting 130HP on the Dyno. That's about the same mark a Civic SI would hit it too.

Kroy, I'd find that dyno and show it to your bud. The curves will be different b/c of VTEC but they will peak close to the same. It will at least be enought to show your friend up which is all you want anyway.

Well from what i have learned from openloop and another guy that probably was one of the first guys to have a B20A is that the fuel maps for the B20A are different from the A20A3. So a device like the SAFC can bump up the fuel as needed. The guy Scott from Georgia has some old version of a basic AFC from Apexi so he has been running his for some time now and the last i spoke to him was over a year ago. He works for accuformance and seemed like a decent mechanic from talking to him and he got his B20A running before anyone had a clue about it. Also openloop said the B20A5 ECU helped out a bit but you loose use of your speedometer so this is one plus to using a SAFC.
