Rev limiter and Cam to crank timing

hey guys what is the stock rev limiter on the honda a20 series engine ecu? i'm just wondering because sometimes in my racing when we're on a tight track setup i'll bounce it off the limiter in first gear down the straight because it'd be faster than shifting. I know it sounds bad but it would only bounce like 3 times.. i just want to know what this rpm would be?

also, my car has a major powerband.. there is nothing really until 4500 rpm and then it just SCREAMS right until limiter, it's a good thing it screams yes but i have nothing down low. would this be because my cam belt is off a cog? i have heard of cars running like this with cam belts that are off a bit

I think it's because of reversion at idle rpms and a little at lower rpms. The reversion act as resistance to the incoming air. or do you have a stock cam?

In that case it could be cam or even ignition timing... this post should be in the technical section.

oh I moved it... yeah forget that part about reversion.

Have you checked the cam gear with the marks on the flywheel?
Stock A20 rev limit is 6,500 rpm

i have not checked my cam against marks on my flywheel.. i think i am going to take it to a shop and get it checked out, and btw i have had my tachy over 6500 street driven without the limiter yet.. thats why i am thinking limiter is in the 7000-7500 range because street driven i have never hit limiter, only at the track and i don;t have time to look at the tach. my car dos'nt have an a20 in it either though.. in canada our cars came with an engine called a BT - 1 and then i swapped out the block and head for a european accord 1.8 sohc BT...

I believe the revlimiter is 7000. Justanothermike at Openloop had a vid of his car hammering the revlimiter at 7000.

MP86, you need an aftermarket cam somethin fierce. Openloop all the way

    Intake: 258* - .420 lift
    Exhaust: 270* - .420 lift

i think i might be going with colt cams because they are so much closer to where i live, not to mention duties and such. and if i wanted to drive to colt cams i could do so in 3 hours

Get the Colt. As for the rev limited it is just a realy on the back of the fuse box. It is under the dash and I think it is the lower right one from the drivers view. It should be marked and if not check the repair manual. Just pull it out and see if it makes a difference.

I though he had carb??? I know that the carb has the fuel cut (revlimiter) and I didn't think the EFI had a type of limiter.

Man you can hardly see it. I have never reved that high to find out but this is the first talk that I have see about a rev limiter on an EFI car. Cause there is other people going 8000 with EFI.

like i said i'm not sure what it is bouncing off at when the limiter is kicking in but it sure as hell do it way up in the rpm.

A20: as for the colt race cam, can that be used with my fuel injected engine because he said it is race only carb only... yet i want the highest gains possible, i am not som elittle bitch that is worried about street-ability if it idles really rough on the street so be it, it's the price you pay for hp

hmm... well I know that openloop had a cam made for the EFI and they weren't able to use it fully because of the rev limiter.

Did Geoff recommend a different race cam for efi? Just tell him your powerband and he should be able to accomodate you.

Openloop's mild grind idles nicely but produces nice power from 3500 all the way till you bang the revlimiter.

if i recall correctly, there's a couple of screws on the back of the dash you remove to disconnect the rev limiter on EFI

rev limiter on efi a20 is 6500. The computer cuts off fuel at that rpm.

The tach is not a perfect instrument so its off a little.

I use to think the rev limiter was like 6750 but I found the specs on the fuel cut in the genuine Honda shop manual.

....and by removing these contacts , the ECU doesn't receive the signal....but it may bring up a "check engine" light

ooohh la la.. well dear sir, if you could point myself and the guys at openloop in the direction of these screws it would be greatly appreciated, i e-mailed geoff at colt, and he's like we've got 3 cams, one for fi and 2 for carbed, the full on race cam was for carb only and then the other 2 were the same but one for carb and one not.. then i e-mailed him back asking if the carb one was useable on my engine and whatnot because i want the highest performance possible out of my camshaft if i'm going to buy one. no response and that was over a week ago. I don;t really want to go thru openloop because it is a long fucking ways away, and then coming back over the border with customs and duty and whatever it's bullsht

where colt cams is like 3 hours drive from my house... it's really no problem to get it done there, but if i'm going to do a cam i want the best i can buy or i'm not going to do one at all, no sense in going halfway on a project because you'll always want to upgrade later
