Nah, I don't think so...but if it happens, it happens. I'm just tired of the 3g...it's not worth it to me to keep dumping money into something that I've lost a lot of interest in. I need a new toy.

thanks for the confidence...what should I ask in autotrader? more? less? And I"m planning on getting an a2 (85-92) vw gti, preferably an 8v, since that motor is really solid compared to the 16v, which can have problems and is more expensive to maintain. Everyone will say "no! don't get a vw" but oh well. It's pretty much decided .

    LOL
Sorry Alex, I just find it funny because I read that and then had my roommate read that and he laughed. He just sold his A2 1992 VW GTI 8v because it kept breaking. The car went through 2 computers and numerous injectors. The computer kept screwing up and made the injectors continue to spit fuel even when it was off. It seemed like the car was flooding itself while it was off. One time I went to help him out because it wouldnt start and when I lifted the hood it stunk of gas. So, I pulled off the air intake and it was wet with gas. I then proceeded to turn the throttle blade manually and gas just poured out and filled a 16oz bottle.

Just beware of the 8v they arent any more reliable than the 16v

Duly noted. I know the next car will probably not be as reliable as the 3g, but oh well. I have a bunch of friends with the 8v motors in their cars who have run just as many miles as 3gs with nary a problem, besides basic maintenance. Thanks for your concern though.

    edit:
In line with that: my friends have def. recommended the 8v over the 16v because they're cheaper to fix and there seems to be less to go wrong. Also, for clarification, what ecu was your roomie running? cis or digifant?

Ask high, you can always go lower, but not visa versa

If you get a VW, the only place to take your car is Hillside Imports. Those guys really know their stuff and they're hella cool to work with. My friend only drives VW's and thats the only place he takes his car. VW's are great cars. I've wanted a Jetta VR6 forever. Be careful though because the older ones can be finicky.

*edt* IMO the only chips and ECU stuff to get is TechTonics. They are high quality and are local so service is good.

Yeah, in Eugene there a bunch of veedub people and I've got a friend who can give me the hookups so I'm not worried about getting work done of aftermarket. Just worried about finding a car in good condition that's been well maintained and that won't be a piece of crap.
