    Exclamation b20a for everyone

Hey you guys, are the B20A's for the 3g accord so hard to find in the states?? There are tons of them north of the border in Toronto. I have a JDM B20A w/ 5spd in my 1985 Prelude(yes the 160hp one). I have pics.

Those engines are in every single engine shop here, just the 5spd tranny is a bit rare. I got mine for about $700 CDN.

The rason why there are so many is because people get them confused with the 88-91 Prelude b20A, and then dont know what to do with them.

yes they are rare as they were only available on the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM)Accords. You are right they ARE NOT the same B20 that was available in the Prelude and will not work. The mounting is different between the Prelude B20 and the accord. Hope that answers the question

    Hoppy,

Did you rebuild the b20a you bought and if so, where did you go to buy the parts?

    vinny is right guys.
HOWEVER...it doesnt rule out that you cant put a lude b20 in there....just means itll be more work. and if you are getting the engine so cheap over there then the mods needed to get the b20 in there wouldnt big a big deal cost wise

it might actualy be something to look at for those who want it.
just remeber that it wont drop right in there and it will involve as much custom work as a b18 drop

Dont botter with the Prelude B20A unless you want a big headache and a car that you probably wont ever drive again. Place racing worked on swapping a prelude B20A5 into an accord a while back and it landed them in a lawsuit. Basically they had to cut parts of them frame to get it in and the last problem was converting to hydrolic tranny. Im not saying its inpossible but when someone is getting paid to do what they do and have trouble finishing it then thats a sure sign of turning your back. Besides its not that hard to find a accord B20A you just have to look and call around. And i saw a bunch for sale on here that never sold so i dont know what people are waiting for. If your gonna do a B20A lay down the money most that i saw for sale here were dirt cheap for a full swap.

where exactly are all those shops that carry the B20As in Toronto? I would like to know cuz my mechanic is currently looking for one with a manual tranny for me. It would be much easier if I could just tell him the shops that carry it!

    hi

sorry for the long delay and lack of info. It's a busy time of the year, and I probably wont be too helpful until after the new year.
I can post some pics, but how do I do it on this site?

BTW, putting the accord b20a in my prelude wasn't too bad. It was worth the trouble. I did have make custom fr and rr mounts and modify the d-side mount to lower the engine 1.25".But everything is as strong or stronger than OEM. You'll see why when you look at the front of a 2g prelude and a 3g accord. Prelude has a much lower profile, thus less room on top.

    B20A Rubber parts, seals, etc.

    Hoppy,

For the misc items you listed, who did you go to to get them and what part numbers did the place use to order them. I recall from Yasu's article, he went through a great deal of trouble to convert the pulleys and belts over to USDM. How did you get straight replacement for your stuff. Were the spark plugs and injectors B20A5 stuff?

the timing belt unfortunately is a JDM/ European only part. Some USDM parts are close but not quite 100%. I got my cousin in ireland to send me a timing belt (OEM Honda). It was about $50-60. cant remember. As for the other parts, all of them were bought here. My altenator belt for example is a direct replacement for a Hyundai Scoupe (i dont have power steering or A/C)

    Smile JDM B20A

Hey, I got my engine from a place about 2hrs away. He had two at the time, but that was about 2 years ago. Some of the other places here have alot of them, but dealing with them on the phone can be a bit difficult. It would be rare to get a straight answer from most since their first language is not English. I'm thinking of being the "middle man" to get these motors to the guys who are in the states or other parts of Canada. Not sure how much shipping will be, but I think that i can have the motors shipped to your shop/home for about $650-700 USD. Let me know what you guys think. Also this way, I can actually check to make sure the engines are in good - excellent shape. I can do a compression test, look under the valve cover etc......

    Sean,

You'd be a hero if you could do this. I assume you are planning to make a bucks off these deals. If not, you should. At that price it would definitely be worth some money to have someone do the scouting and some testing.

I would suggest grabbing a digital camera and go get some pics of few motors. Also, get the numbers off the engine and the transmission. Armed with that information, you could start lining up buyers.

If you need someone to host pics, let me know, I can do it.

    Hi guys,

Ya I'm planning on getting to some engine shops in Early January when I have some extra time. I've got the digital camera and I know exactly what to look for(since i've already done the swap). B20A with the brown or black valve cover and the proper mounts(drivers side is the give away) and the b2k5 M/T with obviously a cable clutch and "rod" shifter. Like i said, I have relatives in the UK for timing belts etc.... if you need them. I'm alittle weary about shipping the engines with no money from the buyer, but we'll come up with something...

    Hey,

I converted my lude to fuel inj. It was pretty easy, but time consuming. The carbed b20 is a double cam Twin Carb.

Nxracer, i know this place, they are not so far of me. I've saw the 2 b20a who was there and they are with automatic transmission on it. They sell me both b20a with transmission for 600$cdn, for both, not each!

f22a89accordLxi: read! do some search, and you will see that NO!
