shall i use 5W-30 now because its winter or does it really matter in the least

5w-30 will help you to start your engine, but when the engine will get hot, that oil will be more like water and nothing more. stick with 10w-40 or 10w-30.

10-30 is rated for temps from 20 degrees and up while 5-30 is rated for temps from 20 below on up. the choice is pretty much upto you since you know your winter temperatures better than we do.
