One millionth "Car Won't Start, Car Stalls While Driving Thread"

I have a 1986 Accord LX sedan, 5-speed. It started fine today, warming up to where it should, and it ran good for the two mile trip to my local Advance Auto Parts store.

After I was done there, I started the car (again with no problem) and I meant only to cross the six-lane street to go to another store. It stalled as I got to the other side, and now it won't start at, even with me going back a few hours later to try to start it from "cold", in case I flooded it the first time.

It cranks fine, and tries to turn over, but it can't. I give it a little gas to no avail. All of the lights on the dashboard work, the clock works, and the radio works, so I've ruled out a dead or dying battery. The alternator light does not come on while I'm cranking away.

The car had a new fuel pump put in about two years ago. I'm unsure of the replacement of fuel filters or fuel relays.

Last week, the mechanic replaced my thermostat and thermostat housing, but he said he also wanted to change a "carburetor gasket" (I'm not sure that's the exact phrase he used) but he couldn't find the right size. He also said he replaced a couple of vacuum lines. I don't know if this is related to my current problem.

Will this problem be an obvious repair for the mechanic? Or will he be chasing all kinds of potential problems?

There were at least 100 different stall threads here that I looked at briefly and each thread probably had five different suggested solutions. It gives me the "worries"; and a headache.

sounds like a carb prob...change your fuel filters...you should have 2 one in the rear driver side wheel well and one in the engine bay...also does it have gas? check the timing also

He replaced the fuel pump today, stating that was the problem. He also said the ground wire was "hanging on by only a few threads" and he re-wired that as well. The two fuel filters were also replaced.
