Question What's this mystery plug for? <pic>

I noticed this white plug when I was putting my alarm in a couple weeks ago. It's under the drivers seat, towards the right side (facing forward) right near the center console hump thingy. It wasn't plugged into anything, just sticking out, and there's no other plugs around to plug it into.

    Any ideas? I'm just curious....

Well, ill have a shot. It could have possibly been connected to an alarm system that was in your car whenever the previous owners had it and well ermm disconnected and removed it after they sold it.

Mine has/had an alarm system which is partially dismantled with it's connectors and controls some in place and some removed so i've got one or two similar looking plugs.

Or another possibility is that it's supposed to connect to something in your car that wasn't installed, perhaps some sort of factory/dealer extra....like an option of some description. Seat warmer, etc.

I did the entire EFi conversion as well as the wire harness swap.

I had this plug in my car too.... left unconnected.

It's not the antena or anything. My only guess is power seats

Ok, that wasn't right, that's under the right seat.

How about C359 for the auto shift gear switch? Do you all have 5 speeds?

I am taking a stab at this. The shop manual diagrams of wiring connectors are not that easy to read, actually. It looks like, from your picture, ther are eight holes, but only six wires present. Is that true? It very well could be wiring that is there for the Bose sound system that was an option.

Barring that, do you have the factory sunroof?

I forgot to mention that my car ahs no such unused plug under there. There were a couple of plugs shown in the diagrams that were listed as being for the Coupe only. That is what I have so maybe that could be it, too. Power seats were not an option in ANY 3g Accord so that wouldn't be it. The coupes did not have power locks as an option during 86-89.

I'll bet if you look all over the car really good you will find other unused plugs as well.

Hmmm...interesting. I do have the factory moonroof, and the antenna motor does work. At first I though maybe it was some kind of diagnostic port or something, but if that were the case every car would have them. Now I'm thinking (and this may sound dumb), but if my memory serves me correctly, the JDM 3g Accords had heated seats, right? They made both USDM models and JDM models at the same plant (I think), so I would think they just used the same wiring harness for all of them to keep costs down. My car is JHM and it does have it, so for those of you that don't, are you JHM or 1HG? I dunno....that could be it.

JHM were made in Japan, and the 1HG were made in Ohio

2 things that I can think of without reaserching:

    -Automatic transmission connector
-Seat heater, I believe I saw this in Paul's site when I downloaded a few manuals.

    plug answer

I have the exact same plug and your all wrong. some of the accords have 2 lights above the rearview mirror telling you if the driver or passenger seatbelt is fastened. that wire connects to the little seatbelt-detecting system in your seat. some have the system, some dont, but apparently all have those lead wires. end of story.

Great job, flush! I have a little brown box next to my ECU and the plug that goes into it looks like this plug. I do have the little seat belt lights above my mirror.

Now that you mention it, the little box mounted next to the ECU is the EFE (early fuel evaporator) control unit which is part of the emissions control, and it has a connector, C309 that looks like the one in the first picture.

I have an 87/88 Accord Electrical troubleshooting manual that I am looking at, so don't think I'm pulling this out my A$$!

I didn't want to remove my front seat to see if I did or didn't have an EFE control unit in my car!

At this point the operative response should be, "Who cares?" If the plug is there, or if it is not, don't worry about it.

    Sorry, just couldn't resist.

    Welcome back old thread haha

I know probably nobody cares, but I think I figured out what it's for. I got an ECU at the junkyard today, and the car was IDENTICAL to mine (black 89 LX-i sedan, JHM vin), except it was auto transmission. That was the one and only difference. This car had that red/brown box next to the ECU with this plug plugged into it, which mine (obviously) does not. Since the 2 are identical except for the tranny, it's got to be the control box for the auto tranny.

    Just wanted to share

I think the coupes and 3 doors have the 2 lights under the rear view mirror warning about seatbelts being unbuckled.
