Any one ever ordered tires online? I'm looking to see if I can get a better deal then my local tire shop quoted me. If you have made an order, then from whome, and would you recomend them?

Yeah I got all 4 tires within 7 days and they were perfect.
I'm going to order a pair of tire's myself from tirerack tonight. I've ordered all my tires from them, highly recommened here. Rims and tires together, I always get from whalentire. I'm on my way to wearing out my rears, only gonna last a total of maybe 10K miles $212 per tire really sucks (I want to change tire brands so that's why I'm not going to rotate. When the fronts go, then I'll change them to).
H&R springs revalved Bilstein front struts, koni struts in the rear 195/55-15 Dunlop W-10's Dc Sports header custom cat-back with Dynomax super turbo w/3" Brembo slotted & dimpled rotor's EBC pads
Well, that's what I used to have, wrecked, 7/3/02.

I got my 17" rims with Kumho Ecsta tires, shipped for free (in 7 days), plus lugs, mounted and balanced for $560!! www.wheelmax.com!!!
I am looking to get the best tire I can for under $150 each. The size I want is 215/40/R17 (perfer a Z rating). Any brand sugestions? I had Yokohoma; good in the summer but crap in the winter; I have $1000 set of Nitto's on it now but I don't have that kind of budget now.

i used www.tirerack.com when i bought my Yokohama Avs Es100s and i was really pleased. the prices were good, and i got my tires two days later. i would highly recommend them
oh... most 40 series tires will suck in the winter. tires with that size sidewall and width generally wont do u much good in the snow.
You have to have 45mm offset rims to run that size and it's taller than oem, so it will sap performance to. 42mm offset can squeek by if you roll the rear fenders. But 40mm offeset is what most all aftermarket rims are, odd's are 40mm will still rub even after rolling the rear fenders. Might not be worth the risk given the chance to rub and reduced power from taller tires.Originally Posted by Mystic1

Jim, I'm already running that size of tire with a 1 inch drop without a problem(check my cardomain for pics). I'm not sure what the off set is as the rims came on the car and I have never had a reason to find out.
The local shop is recomending some Toyo Proxes FZ4 215/40/ZR17 at $125.71 per tire. I just want to see if I can get a better deal on a better tire.
I don't really have snow to deal with just a lot of rain. So water control is my biggest issue for the winter but I want good handling and tread life in the summer as well.
Thanks for all the input so far.

go to www.whalentire.com
they will get you a good price and get it to you quick
if u want good wet and dry traction.. i would recommend the AVS ES100.... they should be less than $100ea from tirerack, and they were rated by them at over 9.0 of 10 in both wet and dry traction. they are very sticky in the dry, and i had no problems with the crazy michigan weather (no telling when its gonna rain, and rain hard).
*edit* tread life isnt the greatest... so rated just below are the kumho ecsta 712s and they have better tread life... tirerack has all kinds of ratings so check it out.

one thing you must keep in mind when ordering tires online is what happens if something happens to the tire or tires and you go to get some sort or warranty on them??? you gotta send the tire back and bla bla bla. seems like alot of hassle to save a few bucks.
I check prices on tirerack and my local Discount Tire is usually willing to match them once mounting and balancing is accounted for. You may want to try bargaining with your tire shop a little.
