Transmission Bleeding on floor (what does this part do?)

My auto tranny is leaking from the round, film-canister-like appendage on the front, all the way by the coolant tank, I've also noticed serious lack of power/acceleration
My question is what role does this part play in the auto tranny and does anyone have a diagram of the parts?

mine's does that too.it does'nt affect the acceleration.
it also leaked on the case from the cooler line's(i think that was from brake torque).
check the fluid, smell it too.
also is your shift indiacator flashing.

do they look like the EFI fan relays. They look silverish and are cylinderical? two of them on the tranny near the bellhousing closer to the engine block?
