    Question spring size?

what are advantages/disadvantages of wider springs? my friend 84 datsun 300zx and my brothers 96 contour have springs that are 2-3 times wider than the ones on my car. jus wonderin why there is such a difference.

Increasing only the coil diameter of a spring reduces its spring rate. It order to make up for this reduction a larger wire diamter must be used. The only real advantage of of the larger coils is that they're easier to use regular spring compressors on.
