    Short shifter?

What's the differance? What is the differance in the 88-00 civic shortshifter and the (84-87 civic/86-89 accord shortshifter)? Does anybody have pictures of the their short shifter?

Also, Has anybody ever tried to put a different car's short shifter in our 3geez?I know the 84-87 civic one will fit, but everytime i find one, it's $70 or $80. Too much in my opinion. After looking on ebay, I saw that the 88-00 civic one is only $9+ and $12 +for the short shifter. Could this one possibly fit?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2452946992

Another thing, are the shortshifter's engineered spefically for a car's [(examples) tranny, engine, car's weight, horsepower, and so on]?

Any helpful hints are welcome, I think this information would be highly helpful for everyone.

I've been seriously thinking about it, plus if it doesn't fit, i'll just sell to someone for $10.

It's a bit hard to get a pic of it installed in the car, heh. I'm using the Pacesetter adjustable deal. Nice piece IMHO.

So.....what short shifter (84-87 civic?) do you have, and when you say adjustable deal, what do you mean?

You couldn't private message him that? What the hell does that have to do with a short shifter?

86-89 Accord is what the box said. Pacesetter's site should have info on it. Nopi used to sell them for 50 bucks.

The ball on the shifter can be moved up and down (the shifter is threaded) so you can adjust how you want the shifter to feel.

    I (heart) adjustable parts.

someone on this board converted civic or teg shifter to 3 geez.
if i remember correctly he had to shave the ball a little, but it fit perfect after that.

Get a cheap short shifter from Ebay. As long as you don't powershift then you won't have to worry about the shifter breaking. Sorry, I don't know what will and what will not fit the 3G Accord. Good luck.

Any abnormal shifting I guess. Just because a short shifter is sometimes refered to as "quick shift" you shouldn't be quick shifting with a cheap ebay short shifter. I got one too (from ebay) and it's great. I haven't tried "powershifting" in it yet cuz I was advised by a buddy not to. It's been on my car for almost 4 months now and it's been good so far. One thing you have to keep in mind is that the shifter will be stiff at first until you get used to it. Good luck finding a shifter to fit.

when people say powershifting they generally mean shifting without taking your foot off the gas or using the clutch.

Blue Impact, what kind of short shifter do you have? Is it the 86-89 accord one?

just get the Pacesetter. i have one and it works fine. i've had mine for like 2 years or more and never had a problem. as far as breaking a shifter, they are short thick pieces of steel. you are more likely to break the collar the shifter sits in or something else than ever break a shifter.

since this is in the pictures section here's a picture of mine. this is an old picture, i have since fixed the top of the boot.

thought i would add a quick, cheap solution... since our shifters are hollow you can cut them down, tap out the hole, and put in a thredded shaft, then just put your shift knob back on. it worked for me, lol.

SHORT SHIFTERS ARENT CUT. the design is changed so it decreases your throw distance. The only thing cutting the stock shifter will do is lower the shift knob.

The GSR shifters work if you grind down the ball which is what wickedaccord did when he had the group buy a few months back. I have one of his, but i havent installed it yet because my car isnt quite together yet. It looks pretty good and i'm pretty sure it'll work great.

The pacesetter shifters are a good choice too.

Okay guys, I grabbed a 87 Civic shifter can I still get the the bushing for these or are there some urethane bushing somewhere.
Do I need anything to throw this in or is it just plug-n-play.
    Thanks

You can use a 94 GSR short shifter. You just need to shave a little off the ball.

Energy suspension makes urathane bushings for it. The parts are for the same year civic as the shifter. These are the bushings for the torque arm that the shifter sits in (it is not mounted to the body), they will make it shift crisper and help with popping out of gear. The bushings are around $12 new or something like that. The actual bushings that the shifter sits and pivots in along with the bushings in the linkage joints are dealer only parts (they are fairly cheap though). I recommend while you are under there to change the bushings in the joints. Mine were quite deteroriated when I installed my shifter. Since you have to drop the exhaust and heat shields to do this you might as well get it all out of the way.

    Next Question

This shifter is actually from a 87 civic, now will this act as a short shifter or do I actually have to buy a short shifter for a 84-87 civic.
    Thanks for the info
