wierd noise when i start my car?

well its cold up here in wisconsin and i think this only happens in the cold (however i did just put in a new alternator and its been cold ever since)

whenever i start my car i get this wierd louder mechanical noise (dosent sound like belts) that comes outta my engine for about a minute and then it ceases, anyone have any idea what this could be or had a similar experience them self?

Have you tried lifting the hood and hearing the location?

if ur car is a 5-speed,... does the noise stop if u hold down the clutch ?? ... if so, its from ur transmission's input shaft bearing... the noise stops when the oil warms up and lubricates that bearing

are you sure it is not the belt? because it sounds like alternator belt or any other belts.

yeah it only happens when its REAL cold out in the mornin, im gonn have to try it and open the hood again, its just im always in such a hurry in the mornin to not me late, ill be back with ya
