    Lightspeed Update - Good News!

I just received an email from Terry at Lightspeed and I am very excited about his news:
    Hi James;

Sorry for the delay in responding to your questions. We have alot going on at the moment, but we'll eventually get everything sorted out. This is going to take awhile to get to get quotes from our vendors and get everything lined up for production. I'll keep in touch as we move forward and you can feel free to contact us with any updates or suggestions. It is our intent to sell direct to the end-user and not create a distribution network which would only add to the final cost to your fellow club members. If there is an interest by your members we can also review producing spring sets, front and rear sway bars, front and rear camber kits. (Let me know what you think.) There is a possibility we can make the headers in stainless steel, albeit more expensive. Let me know if you think anyone would be interested.

We'll continue to stay in touch until we have our pricing in order.

I'll try to get you a photo of the headers.

    Thanks James.

    \Terry Davis
He also sent me some specs on the headers:

Tubing is CR Flash Control Auto Stock (1/16" thickness)
Does it utilize the stock EGR and Air suction tubes? Yes.
    Is it a 4-2-1 or a 4-1 design? 4-2-1.
One piece or a two piece? 2 piece.
Thickness of the manifold flange? 3/8"
    Is it equal length? No.
Two models were made, Part # HO 3036 for the 86-87 Accord DX / LX w/carb , and Part # HO 3037 for the 86-89 Accord LXi / SEi.
And the headers will come with new bolts and a gasket.

Unfortunately, I don't think he has any stock pics from the last time they produced this particular header.

If this thread spurs more interest in the headers themselves, please post in the old thread, so we can keep a better head count:

For any comments on the possibilities of a stainless header or suspension parts, post away here! I am personally interested in the ceramic header for my LXi for the better heat control properties, but stainless does look pretty sweet.

Oh, I almost forgot, I got my Lightspeed springs in the other day and I am looking forward to putting them in. They are powdercoated red and give a 1 inch drop and cost a whopping $85. The spring rates are 381lbs in the front (80% over stock) and 225lbs. rear (92% over stock). They still have the front springs available but I got the last set of rears in stock. It sounds like they may be making them again soon, though.

can you ask for pricing on the headers and the other parts so we know a ballpark range price for them, the more specific the better?

Thanks for the update, James, and also for taking the lead on trying to find better parts for our cars. Without trying to sound like a naysayer though, there are a few things I'm a little concerned about. I have always thought that a 4-1 is better than a 4-2-1, a one piece is better than a two piece, and equal length tubes better than uneaqual. Am I wrong here? Also, what exactly is "CR Flash Control Auto Stock"? Is that ceramic coated? Finally, do you know what the diameter of this pipe will be (runners, exit)? From the description they gave, I'm just not so sure this will be much of a performance increase as I first thought, but I hope I'm wrong. I mean, what is the difference in what they described and what Pacesetter has right now? I was really hoping to get some performance figures from them. Is this possible to obtain?
Again, thanks for the good work, and I apologize for sounding like I'm trying to burst your bubble.

4-1 is for high reving power.. 4000 RPM-10 000 rpm (B SERIES) 4-2-1 is good for low end power (1000-6000 rpm) and 2 peice or 1 peice is the same shit.. but 2 peice is easier to install... and yah.. its prolly gonan be just like pacesetter.. but cheaper.. ceramic coated pacesetter is now 270 bucks at NOPI...

Thanks for the clarification on the 4-1/4-2-1, Travis, and yeah, a two peice is easier to install for sure. Low end power is what I would rather have anyway. I hope the quality will be a bit better than the Pacesetters though, as I've heard nothing but complaints about them. Just how good is the Pacesetter performance wise though? Does anyone have any real data (not just, "it feels great")? Anybody done a before and after dyno?
    Thanks.

I would personally prefer a 4-2-1 design as it tends to give more power throughout the band than the 4-1 design, which gives power at a much more specific point in the power curve (usually tuned to be the higher end on a higher revving motor, as previously mentioned), although this is in exchange for a lower peak than the 4-1. As far as the two piece design goes, if it is done right it will not add an appreciable amount of turbulance and does make it far easier to install the header. CR flash control refers to the type of steel used (cold rolled) and the quality of tube weld. Flash control refers to the ID weld bead, making sure that the inside of the tubing has no irregularities due to the inner welds on the tubes.

Lightspeed headers are ceramic coated, but Terry said in the above email that he would look into producing in stainless, if that is an option people would want. All other things being equal, equal length primaries are an asset to performance, but not completely necessary. The higher production qualities and better design are why to choose this header over Pacesetter. I have actually seen dyno results showing a loss of horsepower with a Pacesetter header, whereas I have personally used Lightspeed headers before and I was completely satisfied with their performance, even if I never got a dyno test done.

I used that site among others to build my header... The 3/8" flange is a bit thin but for N/A I guess it's okay.
