You gotta love how much more power the weber gives to the early 2g. I read that it bumps it up close to 90 (number was taken from some webpage and that would be an almost 20hp gain so I find it hard to believe). I never dynoed my 83 with or with out the weber. Its definitly a kick in the pants though.

    Yeah - & someday I'll get my 2nd stage to kick in . . . it's not bad as is, and I prolly get better mileage this way . . . ? . . .

After I fixed the valve timing . . . using this method marking before in black, & after in red . . .

I discoverd this was the final boo-boo . . . not the ignition timing, not the carburetor leaking, not the valve timing . . . but this:

. . . so . . . I used that stuff I got from the auot parts store about two months ago & cleaned the EGR manifold, then stuck this stuff up into it and poked it in from both bottom holes to make a perfect seal . . .

. . . and then everything worked perfectly . . . purrs nicely when idling and zoom-zoom when you wanna go zoom-zoom!

Don't get any ideas about dropping it. You have no way to correct the camber on a 2g that doesn't involve expensive fabrication. You should be able to get the throttle to open fully just by moving the cable anchor to the lowest hole on the arm. This will have no effect on your gas milage provided you don't drive it around with the pedal to the floor all the time.

    [edit]
Two more tricks I remember to get more travel in the throttle:
    1. There should be a little rubber stoper on the floor behind the accelerator, take it off.
    2. To get that extra little bit you can pull the accelerator pedal forward a bit, not too much, just a little at a time since its almost impossible to bend back. Its just a metal rod so it will bend. I like it to sit a little higher then it does stock anyway, makes it a little easier to heel toe it.

okay . . . the 16 or 17 inch rims are several months away . . . will that mod be okay? And .. . no matter what the cost, I just have to have some stiffer suspension . . . again, this fix won't happen anytime soon . . . but, what can I dream about right now? Any web links?

. . . uh . . . as far as I can tell, there is no "lowest" hole on the arm - just three holes equally spaced from the center of rotation . . . zat make sense?

Thanks andy, I'll investigate that stuff and try it. I was thinking of machining a cam to exponentially increase throttle cable travel . . . along the lines of a compound bow . . .

. . . and finally . . . izzit possible that everyone else I see when I'm driving around is truly envious of my car, or is that just some sort of twisted "only you can feel that way - it's not really true" sort of thing?

    . . . true dat!!! . . .

I had to use a mirror to line it up (rotated & mirrored the image) . . . and . . . frankly, I think the whole process is stupid . . . even after getting it right, the cam pulley marks are not really "flat" or true with the flat top of the head . . . (emoticon with crossed eyes goes here) . . . but it runs great and it must be right . . . I did this first . . .

Wow, you don't see many 2Gs around in that kind of shape, they're usually rusted right out.

the only way to adjust camber on the 2g's is to get camber plates put on the strut towers. Thats actually the best way to customize your camber cause you can change it very easily for whatever kind of driving you're doing. And at what heights.

I think the only people who will recognize your car for what it is is if someone who really knows their shit or is a fan of that generation too. I thought i was the only one who liked fiestas and actually realized their potiential but i soon found quite a few people who were. It'll be a smaller crowd, but at least they're hardcore afficianados.

Ah the fiesta, I just have a thing for tiny ass cars. I always wanted to try the fiat swap in one of those. Then put on a fez and take it to the street races. I wonder what performance tires I can get to fit the 12" rims .

There isn't much you can do for the 2g suspension. Your choices in shocks can be found at pepboys, none are revalveable and none can handle much more then the stock springs. Koni used to make reds for the car, but they were discontinued a long time ago, there may still be some around in a stock room somewhere. I managed to get a set of coil overs on my 85. The suspension was the only thing that didn't change on the 2g from 83-84. I believe the coilovers were for a 94 civic, but I don't remember. A friend bet me that I couldn't make them work, I proved him wrong. There was a lot of hacking involved, espicaly on the front upper spring perches. The rates are 450lb/350lb and the shocks are no where near able to handle them. Theres actualy more give in the body then the springs :x. The car handles good, provided you don't hit any bumps. Pretty much anything you want to do to the car has to be custom fabricated. The only easy upgrade you can do is install a rear sway bar from an LX hatchback or SE-i sedan. Opps, did I say easy. You need to swap the rear control arms and 20 odd years of rust can make that a real pain in the ass (Yeah easy, there are only 2 bolts holding them on after all). Another fairly easy upgrade is 2g prelude rear disks. They pretty much just bolt right on. The only mod you need to do is lenghen the threaded rod on the back of the ebrake handle. Reguires a small bit of welding, I couldn't see a profesional charging more the a couple bucks if anything to do it. Probaby the best thing to do is just grab the whole rear arm/hub assembly from a prelude and swap it in. You probably can use the rear struts too, though I haven't confirmed that. If you are doing both the sway bar and brakes it would make it easier. It's just about impossible to get the long bolt that holds the hub carrier to the arm off once its rusted itself in. You can't use the swaybar from the prelude though, it will hit your trunk floor.

. . . just for the record, I actually bought a "timing hole plug" from the Honda dealer . . . and, even more impressive, I remembered to install it after I checked the ignition timing . . .

cut em! you're probably not going to find anything anywhere. Unless you have a big selection of springs to put on it and test em with i doubt you'll find anything that will work.
