Question Does your 5speed 86-89 accord start without pushing the clutch in???????

Well this ones gone round and round and I'm curious now as to who's will and who's won't start unless you push the clutch in. I know on 4 accords I've owned all of them start whether the clutch is in or out, doesn't matter either way. I've even changed the switch with 3 I grabbed from the junkyard. Whether your car does or doesn't please post what year car you have so we can figure out what years/models will or won't start without pushing the clutch in.

I've got an 89 DX coupe and I have to push the clutch in start it. It won't even turn over if I don't push the clutch in.

I think your clutch sensor is messed up if it does that. Somethings wrong with that.

Yes, mine starts without pushing the clutch in. In fact, I'm so used to just getting in the car and starting it up. I don't know how many times I've left it in gear parked on a hill, and totally forgot about it when I started the car up. Which leads to some surprise unpleasantries.

My 88 starts up without engaging clutch. I also have been known to start in gear and get that embaressed look on my face and hope that no one saw what I did.

Neither of my two 5spd accord would start w/o the pedal depressed. My first thought would be a bad switch because that is what controls it. I could see if you did a 5spd swap from an automatic.

my new hatch had a working switch, but i bypassed it so i can hook up my autostart.. just have to leave it in N and keep the e brake on... if not, my car will go for a ride without me even around lol

plus its a pain when your sittin sideways and just wanna start it when your workin on it.. i dont have to get up on the lift and get in to start, just grab the key and turn

I'm going to go try mine again. I know it needs to have the clutch pushed in but I want to try it without it pushed in.

Ever since the five speed swap, it will start without the clutch pushed in...doesn't really bother me though, because I still push the clutch when I start my car anyways.

Only 89s have to have the clutch pushed in, because that is when Honda did the same thing with auto lock on the automatics.

looks like you have your answer Vinny. Anything lower then 89 in stock form wont start with the clutch out. Both my 86 and 88 lx-i's will start w/out the clutch in.
