ive done this a few times just using the stock hardware cause it was still in good shape. i got the poly bushings seperately at pep boys for 8 BUCKS for 8, did a little bit of grinding... made a big difference on front of my lx and f/r of 88 lxi. ez stuff![]()
Hi,
Just to make sure I'm understanding everything here: just replacing the sway arm bushings greatly increased handling and decreased body roll? You didn't need to go to a thicker sway bar?
A larger sway bar will help alot more than just changing bushings alone.Originally Posted by logic
That said, changing the bushings alone "can" make a HUGE difference. It really depends how wasted the orginal bushings are.
On my car, they were pretty wasted. My bushings were so worn out, my car was hardly controllable when driving over broken pavement. In fact, with the car on a lift, I saw a 1/2 inch gap between the bar and the frame bushings. My end links were even more wasted.
For me, doing these 2 things, made the steering responce feel ALOT better. And I reduced the body roll back to OE quality or better.
oh and one more thing. The 3rd photo in this thread shows a replacement front sway bar end link bushing kit alongside a rear end link. I dont know what the poster was trying to show. If you need front end links and your threaded pins are reusable, just get the kit which contains the bushings and new washers. Its part # 9.8105R. You may however need to cut the bushings down a bit to get them to fit. I put each bushing into a vise and cut them down with a hacksaw. DONT use a razor blade, you might lose a finger.

If 90-97 bushings fit maybe you should check these guys out. Yeah theyre pricey but they dont squeek like polyurathane because there made out of polygraphite.

They also make lowiring kits for our cars but they say you should call for more info.
