    Question Amp help please

What does it mean when an amp description has something like 220W x 2 or 300W x 1? Is that the RMS it can provide to 2 speakers or 1 or how does that work? Like if I wanted to power 2 6x9's in the back that each run 110W RMS would I need an amp that says 220Wx2? Thanks

it can say two things: 220Wx2 or 300Wx1 MAXIMUM power. the other way it can be when it says actual RMS power.
what kind amp are you looking at?
i never seen 6x9 handle 110 RMS power, most likely it is your max power. what kind brand are you using for speakers?

220x2 is 2220 watts by 2 channels for 2 speakers.
if the same amp is listed as that and 300x1 it means you can bridge the two channels into one channel with more power.
That would be overkill for your 6x9s. Get something that can do 100x2 RMS. That sounds high, are you sure that 110 watts is not the max?
RMS = Root mean Square, its complicated to explain.

Tell you what, tell us what speakers you have and we can reccomend you an amp.
What brand/model speakers do you have and how much do you want to spend on an amp?

Well I don't have the speakers yet I was looking at some to buy. Infinity KAPPA693.5I 6 x 9 3-way multielement loudspeaker Those are the ones I was looking at for now and it says Power Handling RMS 110W and Peak Power Handling 330W This is the link if it helps http://www.savinglots.com/lotprod.asp?item=693.5i . I wasn't really sure what was good or not for 6x9's, can anyone give me some suggestions if not these ones? And this might sound dumb because I'm new to this but would 100 or 150 be a lot to spend just for 6x9's? I was going to try and spend 200 or under on an amp if possible and I think I'm going to get the Pioneer P550MP HU if that helps.

I think you put 1 too many 2's in there. I think he means 220 watts by 2 channels.

Anyways... If you want a good amp to power those speakers, but don't want to spend a fortune.. I would definately go with the Audison SRX-2. I have an audison amp, and have never had a single problem with it.. and even though I am running it at almost full power, it never gets hot, and i have nothing bad to say about it.

They rate the SRX-2 at 85W x 2 RMS @ 2 ohms, but beleive me, that it is underrated.

    Kick ass little amp!
