I hooked the cooling fan to my coil!?!?!

For some reason my radiator cooling fan is not getting juice. The motor works fine and i have a month old alternator and battery so i don't know what's the deal. For temporary use i got an old connector from another 3gee and ran + to the coil+ and grounded the -. Yes my fan cuts on when i start my car and doesn't cut off until i cut off the ignition so naturally i can't keep going like this. Has anyone any suggestions on what can be my problem? I'd hate to take it to the dealer and pay an arm and a leg to track down the problem.
Also, will this decrease my Accel coil's performance?

don't connect your fan there, first jump the wires of the temp sensor switch and see if they kick on

just run a toggle switch. you can warm up quicker in the cold and keep the fan on all the time in the warm. just a suggestion.

i dont think that running a bypass toggle will help the engine warm up quicker. Isnt the fan switch thermal not timed? so it shouldnt turn on when its cold anyway, mine doesnt.

just jump the sensor! hell I've done it with a paperclip and you don't have to worry about remembering to turn the fan on and off!

On the passenger side near the bottom of the radiator, there's plug/sensor. Unplug the connector/plug and shove a wire or a paperclip to jump the two wires. If the fan comes on, the sensor in the rad is dead. If the fan doesn't come on, then there's something else wrong (like blown fuse, bad wire, etc.)

Are you talking about the plug that powers my cooling fan? If not is it near there? Could you show a pic? I don't want to mess up my eletrical system by fooling w/ the wrong thing.

like the rest of the guys mentioned, on the pass.. side bottom of radiator (picture that 1988starter posted) you will see a plug with 2 wires connected (its the only electrical wires that plug in the radiator).
Unplug that connector, jump it, then turn on your ignition. If it turns "on" then its that sensor on the radiator that is bad. If it doesn't turn on, then check your relay on the engine's fuse box.

If that doesn't solve it, then check your wires and all other fuses to make sure everything looks normal.

And Yes the plug on the radiator is "thermal" once the peak temperature reaches the radiator, the sensor will activate the fans and then cut power once the temp has dropped.
It is not a good idea to keep the fans direct with a controlled switch or direct with ignition.

Ya, i'm realizing this the hard way. Ever since i hooked it to my coil i've noticed a decrease in performance, even after i disconnected it. Also when i start my car it will sometimes take a try or two, and other times it will fire up but instantly drop in RPM until it cuts off like it's flooded?
I replaced the plugs and coil still the same thing! Could it be my distrbutor or the cap and rotor?

I know this car is really starting to piss me off. I love her for her classy, sporty look. But the damn thing is aggravating!
Please help me diagnose this problem!!

dont we have 2 fuel filters, and also, how do you replace them, dont your have to depressurize the system.
    thanks

I'm assuming you have an Lx-i due to your sig. The Lx-i has only 1 fuel filter and is bolted on the passenger side on the firewall.

The only thing you have to do to depressurize the system is:
look at the filter and you will see 2 bolts with the fuel lines hooked to it, one of the bolts have a smaller bolt screwed in (in other words, 2 bolts in one) you'll understand when you see it. Take the little bolt out of the big bolt and that will releave pressure and the rest is cake.

Carbed modles are the ones that have 2 fuel filters. They are located in diffrent places close to the gas tank.

WHat is the best method for getting at that temp sensor in the bottom left side of the radiator? I can feel it w/ the tips of my fingers but can't get enough of a grip to do anything. Does it just pull out, or is there a clip holding it in there?
Will i have to take off the fan and it's "shroud" thing around it? Or would it be acccesible from underneath?

if u just want to test that sensor...then just disconnect the socket and jump it for testing like the others said
to take it off u need to drain the coolant and a wrench will do it...it's at an angle so be careful..also replace the o-ring

You probably still have the dust shield "on" wich is a plastic cover that prevents dirt and crap from pot holes/water and so on.

You can take that plastic cover off, its bolted in the bottom part of the bumper. Once it is off you will see what we're talking about.

    Let us know.

you have to squeeze the harness while pulling to unplug the radiator fan sensor

Is this sensor also called an ECT (Engine Coolant Temp.) sensor? I noticed my ECU blinking 6 times.
