I have been painting little things in my engine bay and was wondering what everyone else is doing to make it look a little better. If you can please list the type of paint you uses and how you prep it.![]()

I just picked up a copuple of cans of engine paint and primer.
I purchased Dupli-Color 500 degree engine enamel with ceramic.
I plan on doing the valve cover first. Im gonna soak it in degreaser then wetsand it. After it dries im gonna use 2 layers of primer and maybe 3 layers of paint.
After that there is the Airbox, brackets and a few more small things I plan on doing too.

Here are some new pictures of my Turbo B20A as some may have seen this before. All of the stuff is powder coated and my color scheme will be blue and white and the car will either be painted Si Electron Blue or Championship White.
I have Justin's Turbo charge pipes which will also be powder coated white and the other stuff will be blue like the fuel rail and the rest of the vac lines. The blue valve cover is for my other B20A that will be N/A later on in another accord. I know you were probably looking for other engine bay components but the valve cover is always a focal point in the engine bay so you should do yours a nice color that will match the car.
powder coated IM????
i've got a weekend project that im gonna do this weekend that should turn out pretty good.
Nothin' 2 Old Racing

That's the most recent one of my... the Valve cover is just a glossy black high-temp engine paint with some regular silver on the writing... but I'm planning on getting them done right and powered coated
The valve cover looks to me like it was painted with the same paint as the brakes on my car, which is High Temp brake paint, i hope (was done before the car was mine). The air cleaner cover (a different one from the pic) is painted the same color as the car.
PowderCoating is a special gun that sprays powder that is negatively charged and clings to metal parts. Its not really something most people are set up to do at home because you need a compressor, seperate oven (cant use household oven), sandblaster, and a space to do it in. The guns themself run around $120 but the prep work of the metal is what is the hardest and most time consuming part of it.

nah, that wasnt me, i was doin it and my friend goes, u missed a spot, and he sprayed accross the back of that peice, so now i gotta paint it black, cuz it looks ghey, and that was the same friend that cracked all of my needles off in my cluster, hes a smart one, eh?

The process is real simple but you have to start with a piece thats 100% bare metal or it will be flawed and the powder wont stick in any spot thats not bare. Then you spay the powder on Kinda like regular painting but its a mist of powder and its clings to the part (a negatively charged lead is attached to the part). Then once the part is fully covered you bake it and it clears over and is cured. You can use any means of an oven but it needs to bake at around 350d or so i think. I have a medium size lab oven that i use. But you CANT use a oven you cook in because it emits fumes that are not good. So basically most of your work is in prepping the part which most people sand blast them in a cabinet style blaster which can be time consuming unless you have a commercial size compressor that can keep up with the needed pressure. But in the end you have a very durable/nice finish if you do the prep work.
LX-R coming soon Here's a hint. 89mm stroke/ 41.60cc head /ARP head & main stud's /SRP piston's 81.5mm 9:5:1/Crower Rod's & more to come
How do you guys with the realy clean engine bays keep them that way?

We are anal about our cars and wipe them down. All it takes is a trip to the U-Car-Wash place and blasting that engine clean. After that it's just wiping it down regularly.
I've thought of that, but was always afraid of tearing something up, or ruining electrical components. Anything special to avoid?

the main thing to do rob is make sure the engine has cooled down and cover up the distributor cap with a plastic bag or something and dont spray it directly.
Thanks for the tips. Hey, Mike's89AccordLX, that's a pretty trick looking plexi airbox you have. How are you getting air into it though? Am I seeing it right, and you have a cut-out in your hood for a hood scoop? Still, I can't see how you would direct air into the box? Explain, please?

powder coating is easy to do ... the process is like dust going to the tv ... the parts are degreased ,, put in a bead blaster ,, to give the powder a place to get a good grip .. i hot wire is attached and a ground wire is attached... the the podwer coming from the gun has a charge to it like a magnet ,,, the part is cover to about .. then placed in an over at 400 f for 25 minutes to the paint flows and cures .. with steel parts they are simple ... alum. parts need to be heat in the oven at 425 f for out gas.. alum. this will then remove as much gas from the metal as it can after i outgas the part i go right to spraying ... then back to the oven for 25 minutes and let if cool.. there are over 1000 colors and custom colors... from candy to anodized.. chrome to color change ... i polish parts then do them in a candy or anodized and the y are great looking .... powder coating is durable and easy to clean just wipe and go.. withstands heat .. looks better than spray ... the high temp coating's i do are the same as powder coating and some what like jethot ... but on the valve covers you don't get the oil baked on look as much .... any ? email me and i will be able to help you out .....
