I'm your local R&D nut. Fabracting, welding, tuning and breaking my stuff so you don't have to.
Interesting and informative. I use Mobil 1 Delvac in my diesel and have for years. Oil analysis has shown nearly no wear elements in almost a decade.Originally Posted by Keachman1
However I will be switching to Mobil 1 or whatever else works best in the old lady's Accord. Ergo, my presence on this forum. The Honda does not have the Amsoil dual filter setup that my Mercedes has, so I am back to the drawing board.
I have read great things about the K&N filters, thats why I voted for them...but it was an ignorant uninformed vote perhaps.
Where does one get Mobil 1 filters?

Haha, If anyone wants a rapid testing of all the filters let me know. I change my oil every 3weeks which is about the same as every 3k milesI can let you all know. Normally I've been using the K&N's with no problem.
I think I am going to look into whether or not Amsoil has a dual filter system for the Accord, as the old lady doesn't exactly observe her maintenance schedules. I will be responsible for all that, and if I ger preoccupied with my own 2 cars & 2 bikes, I wont be paying too close attention to her car, either.
With regard to oil, I read the post where some concern was raised about full synth being a waste of money and actually harmful for this engine. I would like to find more technical reasoning for that opinon.
Synth flows to the head faster at start up, and holds particulates in suspension far better than dinosaur juice.
However many years ago I heard some old flat-earth proponent tell me that synth made the crank skip or some such strange explanation. (I think he had been in the paint booth without a respirator a little too long)
What is the collective opinion of this august body of Honda cognoscenti?
I use the Fram X2 filter with Valvoline 20w50 Race blend oil, it is still nice and semi clear after 1500 miles of running it into the ground...
wix filters are very common filters. they make filters for many companies, but they are the best. on the options, napa gold filters are wix filters. just for your records.

I use Napa Gold filters. Most people don't know that many of the filters are the same just and different wrapper. As cspeed stated above. I also learned this in my first semester in my mechanics course. The best way to tell is to cut the filters apart and see what's inside. No matter what your filter or oil says on the label. You need to consult with your owners manual about what type of driving condition you live in. If you live in a severe condition like me you need to change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles or 3 months. I would suggest doing that even if you live in normal conditions just because it's better for the car.
Always fill up the oil filter before putting it on too. Most engine damage is caused during start-ups after an oil change b/c the person did not fill the oil filter.
