Hey people, when my 3rd gen accord got older, it got to shakeing more. This does NOT happen when i have my air conditioning off. It shakes really bad when i have it on. Im just wonderin what i could do. I raised the idol a couple of times but its still shaking.
my 88 max does that to. it doesn't shake A LOT, but it's noticeable and the acceleration isn't as great with the AC on either. i dont exactly know why.
I assume it's just at regular idle like at intersections and stop signs?? If so, maybe it's your A/C idle boost. That automatically increases the idle speed when you turn on the A/C. If that were to go bad, your car would be idling too low meaning more shaking. Also, your motor mounts could be at the point they need replacing. Our mounts aren't all that great. Also, accelerating does probably get worse with the A/C on since it causes more drag on the engine.

yk89 is right, the acceleration thing is inevitable, you could get an underdrive pully, buy i beleve that owuld lessen your acpower, only makes sense, right? definately check your ac idle boost system and if that doesnt work you can check your tps and if worst comes to worst, check your compression, your engine could be unballanced in compression and this could become noticable with the extra stress of the ac, i say the compression thiung because my 88 does that.

Definitely consider the motor mounts. You can't really tell they are worn out by looking at them. I replaced mine (lower front and rear only) and it made a WORLD of difference.
BTW, this is why the 4g and newer Accords all have balancer shafts in the engines. Ours idle pretty smoothly, but nowhere near as smoothly as the newer ones.
Also I've seen having bad spark plugs will shake the car quite a bit too. That's what happened to mine.

Pretty sure that is what it is. When the car is in gear (auto) there is load on the engine.
The front mount is fluid filled and actually "breaks." If you remove it and it comes out on two pieces you will know it is broken. I got oil all over the place when I took mine out.
After you replace them you loosen all of the motor mount bolts (about 10) and tighten them in sequence (need a shop manual for the sequence) for maximum vibration dampening.

Any idea how much they cost, should I pull them off another car or get them from the dealership, and how hard is it to replace them? Keep in mind I'm just starting with working on cars.
I would buy them new. I forgot how much they wanted but it was roughly $100 for all three (side, front, and rear). As for changing them, it's not too hard but you have to know where to jack up the engine to make enough room to get the old one out and the new one in.

My car sputters and vibrates alot at idle. When at a stop light, I can see the hood vibrating alot. My RPMS are sometimes below 500. I 'm just waiting for the car to punk out on me.
The engine is quite stable while driving at normal rpms and the car doesn't shake nor the steering wheel. My problem is just at idle. The plugs were replaced in a tune up done just a few weeks ago. I plan to change my plug wire and coil. Maybe it will help.
Should I suspect of my compression, engine mounts, or something else?
