    Question Potential altenator replacements

I was curious what altenators from other models of accords would fit an 86 lx-i... mainly curious if its the same as the one from an 89 dx, but i doubt it. Any kind of list would be cool. They want 120 for a rebuilt one, so i would rather try to take it from another accord, like my spare.

Well I think the carbed accords have a different amount of prongs on the alt. plug in.

If I'm not mistaken I think the carbed one have 3 prongs and the FI version has 4 prongs.

yes, both EFI and carb alternators are diff. you can't swap them. plus you won't gain anything. they all put out 65amp.

Before you get a new alternator did you try checking the brushes on it to see if they were worn down or broken? Replacement of the brushes might fix your problem for about $20.

You could get yourself a nice high-output alternator if you have a system in ur car. Check some out here: http://www.mean-green.com/products/alternator.html

The 4th gen alternator is a good fit. All you need is a spacer (i.e. washers, or a metal bushing) between the upper bracket and the upper mount of the alternator. You also have to enlarge the upper hole on the bracket....the one that bolts to the motor, and a new belt. Pretty easy mods...and you gain 15 amps in the process. I'm looking into some higher amp alternator swaps at the moment....I work part-time at Kragen Auto...so this should be a good way to pass my dead time at work..ahahah

You can swap a carbed alternator on a EFI model (and vice-versa)

All you need to do is change the regulator on the outside of the alternator. They are both physicaly the same except for that part.

i dont know if the clip outlet on the alt is connected to the regulator, but im sure u can rig up a efi clip (green clip) into the carb harness to accept the efi alts.

For the 4th gen alt mod, check my thread in the projects section. All u need for that mod is the 4g alt, new belt (number given), and a Machine bolt (90 cents).

Nevermind, once I actually looked at it, SOOOO EAAASSSYYY. However, there is a small bracket that goes on on of the studs on the back of the alt, I can't remember which one it goes to. I put it on the stud that was the cleanest, but not 100%, so if anyone has a pic, that'd be great.
