    Question Alpine Type-R 6 1/2" and 6"x9" Installation Issues.

I knew paying around $100 for each pair just sounded too good. I was right.....

The 6"x9" are on the way, but I'm sure I'll have the same problems with these to.

I tried to put the 6 1/2" in the front doors, but they're too large width-wise. I even took the stock speaker mount off the door to see if it would fit onto the bare metal door, but still no.

They do not come with an adapter plate. Alpine doesn't even make adapter plates for this line apparently.

Has anyone else tried to install these? I assume I'll need to drill into my freaking door in order to get these puppies in.

You'll have to build an MDF(wooden) panel to space the speakers out from a door a little. After that you should have enough room to install them.

Damn, my Pioneer 6.5" popped in with no problems... and I just needed to shave the edges of the stock rear enclosures for the 6x9s to fit.

    shepherd79,

The parts that are hitting the door are: The 4 metal plates in the back that get smaller as they go to the magnet.

    Cyric_accord,

These things are almost 3" deep. Pain-in-tha-booty.

Also guys......should I amp these puppies? My deck is an Alpine CDA-9813, which has about 26w RMS, but with such high-end speaks wouldn't just be wiser to amp them?

Yep them type R's are really big. An amp will make them puppies sound better. Even though your head unit is putting out some power, the power that an amp puts out is alot cleaner. Higher and cleaner power is better for speakers.

You could look to see if you could find or make Kick panel boxes made of fiberglass or wood.

I had to make some fiberglass door pods for my type r components to get them to fit at all (I don't know if they are the same baskets as in the coaxials).

I thought about that, but I'm sure they'd hit the window since they are so deep.

well you can use a tape measure and measure how far does the magnet goes in.

What amp do you have? I'm most likely going with this Alpine one. Found it online for less than $240 w/shipping:

    Alpine MRV-F340 Amp
