oxidised clear coat

My clear coat or paint, someone told me its the clear coat, is oxidised, tried rubbing compound, it made a little difference but not much. Am I screwed and need a paint job or is there a way to stip the clear coat without messing up the paint. any ideas?

If it's not too bad someone with a buffer and rubbing compound should be able to clean it up pretty well for a $100-200.

Use Meguiars #1, #2, and #3 with a buffer. It does wonders.
Chances are you don't need a new paint job.

Yeah i was about to say use Meguiars. cuz i have 1,2,3 shit works like a charm. that would make your car look good to.

make sure you try it out on a small area before you start to do the whole car. if your not used to using a buffer with what ever product you try, you can fuck it up worse. so i'd reccomend trying it in an area where its not too noticeable. one you get the hang of it you will be good to go. i'd check out that how to thing. you will be happy with your results if its done right. good luck with that. you should take before and after pix and show us.

if the clear coat is oxidized, i dont think any kind of rubbing or buffing compound is gogin to fix it. most likly it needs sanded and resprayed. when sanding clearcoat i dont care how careful you are you are goign to sand thro to the base coat somewhere. the clear coat is mosr expensive than the paint itself in most cases.

I read the Motor Trend article, I think I'll get some 2000 grit paper and pick a test spot as bad as it is in some spots I really dont have much to lose, thanks for all the info, jim
