i just sent a tranny across the US... i tried FEDEX, and they needed a wooden crate around anything over 100 lbs.. i used a plastic bin, with a wooden base and lotsa carbboard and newspaper around the tranny... i sent it VIA UPS and they had no problem with it.. make shur to get it wraped REAL good with shrink wrap. that way it wont come open or if the box gets wrecked, the shrink wrap will hold it together

I took my last one down to the UPS store and they packed and shipped it for me. I think it was like 15 bucks to pack it and the company I sent it back to paid return shipping. They sent it back to me UPS in a nice big plastic tranny shipping box. Buzz sent me his tranny UPS in a plain cardboard box filled with shredded newpaper and such. UPS is definitely the way to go

last time i shipped the tranny i took it to UPS store, they packed it for me and shipped it. you just need to make sure the oil is drained and the tranny is clean.
the total cost if i remember was about $150 including packing. you just have to call and ask them
make sure you give them dimentions of the tranny, L- W - D. it doesn't have to exact.
and if you have scales weigh the tranny to get correct shipping.
i know auto tranny after draining the oil and cleaning crap of it weigh 110LB. 5 speed should be about 20lb or more lb lighter.

I think we figured the 5 speed at around 75-85 lbs. I know i can left and throw one with one hand. :rant2:

If you can get near an airport... find a Forward Air Location (www.forwardair.com) theyre really cheap, but youd need to have it taken to and from the terminal, but ive shipped engines for $150 thru them, and wheels/tires for $49 both from the west coast. You just need to strap it to a pallet...
