    Talking Spraypaint

Hey, me and some friends of mine got some cans of spraypaint and used tape and paper and painted some designs on it. I know it sounds dumb, but if you do it right, it looks good! I hope to post some pix real soon. When painting, dont just spray and keep spraying. do nice even fast sprays, only like 2 seconds long. Make nice even layers. For the best results, use metallic paint.

Seriously, when you consider that I could spend $40 or $50 and paint my whole car, as opposed to taking it somewhere and have them paint it for $300, its pretty good. And like I said, my friend who did the painting is really frikkin good with spraypiant. The reason its knocked so much is that people dont do it right. If you do it right, you cant tell the difference.

I would say you would be lucky to get paint for $1000 US.

Yeah thats why im sayin its cheaper to just use spraypaint it. If its done right, it looks like a professional job. You do need to sand down the other paint though first so that it sticks right.

It's called primer sealer and yes it is available in a can. Rattle can paint jobs can be made to look very good, almost as good as a pro job, when done by an experienced person.

I won't go into details, but stripping paint, priming, wet sanding, prime sealing, wet sanding, spray painting a couple of layers, wetsanding fine grit (1000+) lightly, several more layers of paint, fine wetsand (2000 grit) lightly, clear coat (several dry coats, no super wet), 2000 grit wet sand lightly, rubbing compound lightly, polishing compound, carnuba wax...done.

Of course it is not that easy as you will need to tack and wax-silicone remove in between...

This method is very strenous and time consuming, but for the DIY it may be worth it like many other things. Shitty can paint jobs will have a dulled/bumpy surface. That is due to shortcuts and impatience and lack of proper sanding. That is why so many people knock "rattle can" jobs, because of the ignorance of the correct steps and patience it takes to do it right...

I couldn't agree more... Ive painted parts of my car over 8 different times... and the whole car 5 times. All with spray paint... mostly primer and sealer... there was a few attempts with gloss and semi gloss and flat. Flat with clear coat and rubbing compound works the best... straight glossy paint leaves all these dull splotches now and then... the toughest part of doing the spray is getting the roof and the hood if you decide to leave the hood on the car. Also I've had to deal with windy conditions on each occasion since I don't have a garage or booth readily available. Small parts like the lfip up lights are easy to paint and make them come out looking nice. any area larger then 2 X 2 feet seems to suffer from the can not spraying consistently, even after it has been shaked and heated.

rattle can is not as bad as it sounds. Like whats been said before, if you take your time and do it right, it can look pretty good. Not as good as a high end job, but i have a friend who can probably rattle can a paint job better then maaco could ever dream of doing.
