    Gas Mileage!! Holy Crap!

I just filled up on Tuesday and calculated my gas mileage out at 49.3 miles per gallon! That is incredible for a 17 year old car that has 242500 miles on it, old wires, plugs and dirty air filter. My 25 mile drive to work is all highway so I guess that helps my mileage go up...I was only expecting to get about 30 on the highway so, I was really surprised to see 49...I double checked my math too!

might want to tripple check that it seens REALLY high. I just filled up today and came out with almost 29mpg city. Best I've ever gotten on was 35 or so and that was on a 400 plus mile all highway trip. Filled up just before I got on the highway and filled up again right after i exited the highway. That was at like 60-65 mph and right after a tuneup.

If your math is right and you drove it til the light came on you should have gone ATLEAST 690.2 miles, assuming the car takes 14 gallons when the light comes on, although when mine comes on it takes 13 gallons and the tank holds 16 gallons.

when that little light comes on does that mean your going 2 run out within the next gallon or is there reserve like a couple gallons left?

I never let my light come on...Right now, I have driven 230 miles this week and I am still above a half a tank...I triple checked my last three fillups and the average mileage for all three is 39.2 MPG. My highway speed is 65 and my in town speed is 40 - 55 depending on where the cops are!

That mileage just doesn't sound right. I beleive the specs on the 3rd gen when it came out were somthing like 27 city and 32 highway. How long does it take you to get from 0-55 like 10 min?

i went to canada on a road trip and i was getting around 420 miles on a tank.

I'll bet you didnt figure in the correct size of your tank because that is too high to be real. How did you figure your gas mileage??

The most i pulled out of my 3g was 460 miles on one tank which came out to about 35 or 36mpg. I think that the pump must have clicked off early when you were filling up which means you didn't fully fill your tank. Either that or you didn't realize that the 3g tank is 16 gallons.

I know I figure mine like this

    trip meter reads 371 miles
Pump says it took 13.01 gallons
    376 miles divided by 13 gallons = 28.92MPG

The size of the tank has NOTHING to do with it.
    Miles traveled/gallons at fill up

and that boys and girls is Vinny's lesson in basic math for the day

There most be a whole at the top of your tank that is leaking gas out slowly. The tank is only a 12.

Up here in Canada, we have a 60 litre tank, which is about 13.2 gallons.

50 mpg sounds way too high, more like the vtec-e civic. But if you get that consistently, you are my MPG GOD.

My service manual shows 15.9 gallons (60 liters) as the fuel tank capacity. The fuel light should turn on when there are between 3 and 4 gallons left in the tank.

Are you sure you're not using Imperial gallons as opposed to US gallons? There is a difference.
    1 imp gallon = 1.201 US gallon

    hmm.. that's interesting.

The most I ever fill up at the gas station is like 12. I usuually fill up 9gallons. I'm rather conservative and I never seen my fuel light let alone know if it still works.

    yesterday I filled up:
    278miles/11.193 gallons = 24.8mpg combined 80%city/20%highway

can't see exactly how you are doing this, perhaps I'm not driving "gas-saving" mode.

Actually, I am running on cooking oil I get from the chinese take out place down the street...I have a diesel motor in my accord....

And yes, I am a dumb ass...I recorded the miles traveled wrong...the actual mileage now is 34.1...Today, I am still above the half tank mark and sitting right at 250 miles traveled so far.
