    B20A Head/Cam/Valve info!

Ok so today i finally got to compare a B18A1 head with the B20A head. The cams are almost exact the only differences are cam gear side is about 1/16-2/16ths longer offsetting the cam gear a little but it appears not to cause a problem. Second the exhaust cam does not have th grove for the sensor. So B18A1 cams will work with minor adjustments and if you wanted you would only have to have the grove cut in by a machine shop. As for valve

    valves

And for valves the intake valves are an exact match but the B20A exhaust valves a bit larger. I have to check with my machinist on this but i would imagine most companies sell oversized valves but i would imagine you will need head work if you do this. But i imagine most if any would only be interested in better cams in anything but i need the valve train done for my turbo setup.
    Just a few other pics:

Damn thats pretty sweet. did you ever look at trying for another Bseries head for fitment on the B20. I heard that it wasen't a bolt on deal or not possible but I never knew how close they are. If you were able to get the cams to fit then the head could be possible at least for length wise.

Yea I bet you could just like we can use B18 valves but it would most likely require some machining.

Yeah the B18A1 springs should be fine however the B20A stock has dual valve springs. Im looking into ferrea valves and they do custom valves so the intake valves should not be an issue but i have to consult with my machinist first. I know he wanted to use larger exhaust valves which Ferrea already makes. The intake valves are larger than the oversized ferrea B18's so i assume the will match up others or make a custom set for me.

As for the head i did put it on my other B20A and it does drop in place fine but i did notice the head bolt holes were off a little. I didnt have my old B20A head gasket handy (it was on the Turbo B20A and didnt want to take it apart) so i didnt see what area was going to be a problem.

I hope to finish it this summer but its going to be close and i will not half-ass it so it will get done right no matter what. I am about 90% sure im doing the body work first which obviously is taking time/money from the engine progress but i just dont want to pull the engine back out after i have it all tuned and stuff. So hopefully things go well and i get it done this summer. I am going to call Crower to see if they will cut the sensor groove in the exhaust cam for me and maybe even shave down the cam sprocket side to match the B20A cams 100%. And im most likely going with ferrea oversized valves, spings, and retainers since this is what my machine shop preffers and wants to use. I just laid down $2000 on my JDM parts order so the rebuild for the B20A is just about complete along with pretty much one complete set of spare parts from the rear mount to the oil pump. So im prepaired if anything were ever to break even belts. Its been extremly expensive to build this turbo setup but i wanted the outcome to be top notch and be as reliable as the car was before the turbo. So i could have definatly cut the cost down a lot but i cant see doing the turbo that way. So i dont want to turn off other people but im doing this project with 100% new parts along with some of the best stuff from Crower, Ferrea, Spearco, Quaife, Cometic, Turbonetics, AEM EMS but thats just how i am and this car has been haunting me for the past 7 years so my dream has almost come true. So i wish all you guys the best and im glad i can give back some information to others going into this swap blind.
