Exclamation I have no brakes... well sorta

I seem to be the only person who has had this problem. First off i have an 87 DX with 190K miles on it. Well for about a month now my front right rotor has been grinding when i brake at low speeds. I know i should have replaced them ASAP, but i've been kind of strapped for cash and i only drive about 20 miles a week so i didn't think it was a big deal. Well today, i was getting off the interstate and right when my car finally hit a complete stop at the light, i heard a snap, or a pop coming from my fron right wheel. Light turned green, and my car had a little trouble moving at first, almost like my wheel was locked. i drove for about 30 seconds and when i tried to stop, my brake pedal went down to the floor and i had to use my E-Brake. About an hour later, i said fuck it, and decided to e-brake it home, since i didn't have my cell on me. the weird thing is, when i got back into the car, my brakes seemed to be working fine, except for the grinding... What gives?

Im gonna take a wild guess and say your brake pad is gone and the rotor is beyond fucked up. If you keep driving on that you will damage the caliper as well.

i'll be willing to bet the caliper got too hot and fried the seals. The snapping sound may have been a piece of the pad braking off or something. The best way to tell would be to pull off the wheel and see what happend.

dont believe them, you just got a little dirt in your blinker fluid. dont drive it for one week and it will be ok. NOT lol< i think it was your calliper seal also, that and the rest of your brakeing sys is probly SCREWED. when you replace your pades and rotors be sure to check your brake lines and caliper seals. and if you didnt know, you probly need to add brake fluid and bleed the lines. just in case you didnt know. (im sure you do)

if you lived near an autozone, you got yourself a brand new rotor, brake pads and a rebuilt caliper for $60 and no more. Just get yourself some cheap brake pads which are good and made by ACDelco and get some rotor and caliper. u should have just changed the pads and saved yourself some headache, now because of your ignorance, you are gonna spend 3 times more than what you could have. :smokin:

Oh yea. DO BRAKEJOBS IN PAIRS. As in if you replace the pad, rotor and caliper on one side you need to do it to the other. If not you are going to be stumped as to why your car pulls to one side while braking.

When my caliper froze on the passenger side and dug into the rotor, we changed just that and car never pulled anywhere, even under braking it was straight.
