rebuilding a carb

I know that the Rebuild kits cost about 50$, and I was wondering how hard it is to actually rebuilt the carb, I dont know crap about engines, but I dont have the money for a new carb, or the money to spend on having a mechanic do it for me. Ive got an 86 LX

Rebulding your self is tricky, but it is also time consuming. I was thinking about converting my carb to EFI but it is kinda hard and will take a while to do. there is a how-to...
just make sure you get the correct rebuild kit... sometimes they may try and give you the rebuild for a prelude dual sidedraft carb... but you need it for the 2bbl downdraft keihin...

In addition to what A20A1 said, rebuilding the carb is not that hard. The rebuild kits usually include detailed drawings and often instructions showing how to reassemble the carburator. In fact, retuning the rebuilt carb is probably tougher than rebuilding it. If you would like to be on the safe side, get a spare used carb from the junkyard and rebuild it instead. That way you just need to swap out the carbs, and if anything goes wrong, you still have your old carb that you know runs. Hope you find this helpful.

Since I dont really have any clue what im doing (I have a little more after looking at those links) im going to call around to a bunch of mechanic shops and get their prices for a rebuild. I rarely have a full day off anymore so I dont have the time to get it done, plus this way it will save me a lot of frustrations.

its not hard but i also went to school and learnt about them,
get a haynes, read instructions it shouldn't be too hard.
