    Rear drum to disk possibility?

i know some of u think that i am stupid. BUt this is a question that no one i have talked to was able to answer me with a satisfactory answer. But with lots of parts cross reference and ease of fabricating, here is questiong.

Will i be able to just slap on a disk at the rear, without getting all the knuckle and stuff from the SE-i? Except for the drum and disk, the knuckle and all other linkages do look similar. I dont mind getting stuff drilled out cause i have access to a machine shop. I wanna rip apart the whole drum set up on a junk 3g and take some pics and see how well they match up. I wanna get the rear disks pretty soon, but with time constrain and non-availability of a SE-i in a junkyard i am pretty much open for something like this, something to be made to fit.

this is the DRUM set up

this is the DISK set up

Okay i cross referenced the parts and here are the exact match for both.

    parts different on the disk

    75768 MUDGUARD, L. RR.
    75769 PROTECTOR, R. RR.

    illustration number ref: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 24, 25, 26

So i dont see why we cant fit a disk on a drum place, without switching out EVERYTHING. u know what i mean? Any feed back would be awsome.

actually, i've been wondering the same myself... i think it would be better to do if you're doing a big brake upgrade and leave the SEi parts for someone that doesn't mind stock SEi rear brakes

i guess you can try and tell us how it is.
if i had access to machine shop i would have done it long time ago.

Good idea, but just one question.... where are you gonna bolt the caliper bracket to?

I had thought of this once before too, heh

the bracket is not gonna be hard to machine, a AL 6061 should be a piece of cake.

By the end of the summer, im gonna get this thing going. But some misaleneous parts with specific part numbers, can be omitted i am sure.

I am suprised how u guys had the same idea, but never made a thread and put all the stuff there. Would have been a great help.

I wanna see this working first before I jump into this, it does look like everything is an exact match except the few parts that are different and needed. but isn't the bracket already on the sei arm so instead of fabbing up one just get that piece???

magny, yeah, but the idea is to be able to do this without the SEi parts...

smufguy... i never talked about it because i thought the arms were totally different... i DID NOT know they were that similar... maybe i need to break the ones on my old parts car down and see what i think... i'm sure even for those that didn't wanna machine the bracket that you could pick a pair up at a dealer...i would think that's considered a needed part and will most likely carry those until these cars are pretty much gone off of the roads completely... that should be an easy part to get, even if we never see an SEi

magny, thats true. but its the last resort. LIke i said before. the only way i can get hold of them is to spend a good amount of money to get the piece from the dealership cause i cant find an SEI in the junkyard.

The rear drum knuckle is the same as the disk knuckle except the disc setup has a bracket to bolt the caliper.

If you could manage to make a custom bracket and machine it onto the drum knuckle, it would work.

in reference to the bracket, any machine shop will make one for you, and since you have access yourself, that makes things even easier, then

might it be easier to obtain just a new SEi rear kunckle? i mean machine shop work can be expensive unless you are gonna do it all yourself and then there is the whole you could comprimise the saftey of your brakes bit

i have said that i cant find a SE-i here in the junkyard. so yeah, its either i make my own brackets or i get it from a dealer for the price i can sell my own life. So if u were following up the thread u would know. The machining will be done by me and yeah i can machine whatever i need and the warehouse is only 15 minutes away. I have built my car and have put about 20K miles in the past 7 months already and with soo much abuse, the car is still in one piece. So i can say i wont be fucking anything up and compromise safety? well with a use of common sense we can avoid that cant we?

a caliper bracket will be hard to mount on the hub because there isn't really any place to put it. The SE-i knuckle has it's bracket built-in the knuckle. Keep us updated tough. it might help alot of people if you can manage to do it.

I thought about this to. They make a rear disc swap for civics..........

Not sure if it would work or not but the design should work for us. Might have to redrill the bracket they have or add spacers to the caliper, but it should work, for us, maybe even the ebrake lines might work for us???
If not get a bracket made similar to that, should be really easy, then go to honda and get new calipers, and ebrake line, which are not cheap at all. One caliper is about 220.......... With that price you might be better using bigger rear calipers, ours are really small. The bigger rotors and stock calipers front and back will work really great 60-0 in 125 ft, but I'm looking for even better in the future. hope this helps some

    u suckers. hhehehehe

Well justin, i dont know if they can fit our knuckle tho, but its worth the shot. And without abs, i doubt if our cars can stop in 125 ft without locking up.
