    Ram Air!!

has anyone looked at the ram air setup on like a 94 model TA? i was thinkin about useing that setup an the accord. looks like it would be easy to fab and just about any hood scoop would work, or even just cutting a slot in the front where the angle is on the tip of the hood. what do you think, possible? functional ram air is always nice.

I myself was thinking of a CAI cold box where the battery presently is located. Air induction through a slim-line hood scoop on the hood directly behind the passenger headlamp. The battery would be re-located to the trunk area (say Spare Tire Well?).

Mike did that with his accord, but now he's running this dual intake piping for his Weber.

a 94 model trans am (TA) firebird ram air, have you ever seen the setup under the hood? it looks like it would be easy to fit in the 3gee

the ram air effect you are looking for with the TA is a very bad setup for our cars because of the way the setup is on a Firebird.......... still has to make a 90 degree bend to make it to the intake. killing off any ram effect

    Not true.
The air will still flow just as fast as long there is no restriction along that bend (IE: ripples, ridges, etc).

why would there be a 90 degree angle? i was thinkin a scoop in the front pass side, sorta what deathrat said but not through the head light, right next to the head light. ill try to work something up and make some blue print cuz i think it will work great. if you have seen the 94 model TA setup, looks like it will fit easily right next to the bat.

and it would be similar to that but more toward the front on the same side.

It is a good idea, especially down here in hot-as-hell Texas. Only concern I would have is road debris. The problem is that in order to get a true ram air effect, you have to have an almost uninterupted flow of air. Well, if you get it into the direct flow, say from just beside the headlight, you are inviting dirt, bugs, water etc. into your intake. You would need a pretty good filter to screen all this, but then, you lose the ram air effect to a large extent. It's a trade off; good flow, but chance of debris, or good filtering, but loss of flow.

well the ram air filter on the TA looks like a pretty good one. i understand what your saying, but still a filtered ram air would have a greater effect than just a CAI and when you wanna run you could always just pop the hood and jerk the filter out for a few min im gonna look into in. anyone have an extra hood they could donate for the experiment? ill pay shipping, and if it work all post a how to. from what ive seen it looks very promising. my cuz has a 94 TA, i need to go get some measurement from that.

I installed a custom Ram Air on my Bonneville a while back. I used 4" duct work & a reverse scoop. This allowed no dibris into the system. PLUS! The system itself was so powerful by itself, it could suck your hand in just by hitting the throttle too! I plan to do the same possibly on my Accord, except use a cold air box directly below the scoop.

interesting project, but personally, i think CAI would be better...
if i did that, i would do it with the cold air box like deathrat, but i wouldn't have to worry so much about debris with a CAI
    or maybe i'm just retarded

Of course I'm lazy. If I wanted to work on my car I'd have gotten a DSM

your still getting debris from a could air, think about it, it sitting right next to the ground and its just a round filter. just the ram air is gotta little force around it. i mean your going to get a little more debris but i dont think that much more. i mean if it was that harmfull to the engine, why would GM put it oon the cars they make??

I thought about doing this same thing with my accord.

I currently have the civic air intake mod on my carb and I am going to move the battery to the trunk and then install an intake that reaches all the way to where the battery used to sit. I was thinking about throwing in an "Evo" side scoop to help give it the ram air effect. I dont have a pic of what I am talking about, so sorry if your lost.

personally, i wanted a somewhat slim old school turbo style scoop for a ram air type intake thing going on. i'm waiting till i get a new hood, although maybe i should try it out first on my old hood.

I created a ram air intake system for my G35. I used the air box out of a K&N typhon 350Z intake system and fabbed it with sheetmetal to seal it. I then mounted the scoup in a high pressure zone in the front below the bumper. I had a Injen CAI, but went this route because I wanted a cold air intake that pressurise's. So long story short, it can be done I think, but I had more room to work with to be fair.
