buying a 240sx, turbod accord put on hold to be a daily driver

well guys, all my accord plans and mods might be stopped in their tracks...

i have a friend trying to sell me a tired 90 240sx SE fastback. the exterior is really nice except some chips of paint on the front bumper. the interior is really clean, and the only mods are 2" drop and rear strut tower bar.

the motor has 101,000 but smokes bad and gets terrible milage, but my friend has a red top sr20det motor for 1300-1700 im not sure on the price. that includes motor tranny ecu and cut harness.

anway the car is charcoal. and it looks really nice.

my plans would be to either keep the accord the way it is or possibly sell the cam and dc header and exhaust shit, but im not sure, i like the accord the way it is, and all it needs is a fresh motor and clutch before it will be really happy.

but im probably gonna buy the 240 within the next month or two, and all my money is going to go in to that car. its gonna be a full on road racing car, gutted and caged, the whole bit. the accord is gonna be the nice friendly daily driver. i will probably even fix the AC~

    what do you guys think?

ps i will stay an active member of this forum, because i love it here, and honestly the zilvia forum sucks. lol

AHHHHH, rear wheel drive...mmmmmmm......so nice, Just Do It. I absolutely LOVE 240sx and if you would do sr20det, kad24det, rb25dett or rb26dett project on it, it would be so nice....(don't blame me, I am not sure about the names on engines on nissan, but I meant skyline engine swap...)

it has the ka24e right now. but im gonna probably just blow it up and install a red top sr20det.... i can get it for cheap... so thats the plan. first mods will be suspension, then exhaust, then front mount intercooler, then downpipe then who knows...

You're on the right track, my man, but don't forget that Sileighty conversion in the end to make it "complete."

Go for it man... you won't be sorry at all. A friend of mine has a 240 with an Sr20DET. He bought it with a blown engine, and the body has its share of dents and such, but that all adds to the sleeper effect.

All he did was the swap, greddy up pipe and down pipe, and now has Greddy E-manage, and damn does that thing go!.. I am sure that with a FMIC, new fuel pump and injectors, and a nice 3" exhaust, that thing will Kill all... Lol.

its a nice car, ive seen guys run around with SR20s and theyre nice. One thing the 240 has over the accord is that is rwd so you can drift. Otherwise i still think itd be more fun to have a turbo accord because nobody has one (ok like 2 people) and you have the sleeper factor going for you... but anyway you go its all good

yeah alex im gonna have to use the garage with the lift at your dads place to help install some parts!

ill post pics of the car im trying to get really soon. also if anyone knows of a project 240 with no motor or a blown motor i would be very interested. NW area if possible...

ps alex my friend with the corrado now has a lysholm supercharger running a 50mm pulley which is supposed to be 15psi but it has a serious boost least and he only hits 10psi and sometimes will spike to 12psi in 3rd. it hauls though. you need a SC!

Get the 240, check out http://www.gladmanperformance.com for a turbo kit for the KA24E good for around 220-250 RWHP, or you can get the manifold from him and piece the rest together cheaper. The SRs are overrated IMHO. The one I had with a fastback over 2 years ago was great, but KAs are very responsive engines with many upgrades available now as well and can sometimes be cheaper.

The emissions system was prolly removed, but if you part out the engine, let me know.

P.S. How much does he want for the car? Just wondering...

i dont have a definete price on the car. it depends how much he owes on it, cause he just wants to get out of payments, but i dont want to overpay... it will be less than $3000, but my guess is in the 2600-2800 range.

i will have pics up tomorrow night or the following day.

ka24e-t seems crazy. i would rather have ka24de-t but i will research it all before i jump into anything.

thanks for the link zero... im sure ill bug u about some q's i have!

Don't underestimate the Single cam derivative of the KAs.

after looking up some more stuff, i think i like the idea of a ka24de-t

HOWEVER, figure it will cost me $1200 for a rebuilt de, installed, and then $2000-$4000 for the turbo hardware, and i am up to almost $5000 just for a low boost turbo setup.

then consider i can get an sr20det for 1700 at most/ installed for 500. with a nice set of engine mounts lets call it 2500 installed for a low boost motor, and i can spend that 2500 on supporting mods and pistons rods etc.

so considering that this motor needs replacing, i will probably just go with the sr route... however i did like the videos from the site you linked to!

don't use KA motor if you are going turbo. they are not as reliable as SR motors. Sport compact magazine did the swap last year and i have the article on it. i can scan it if you want.

240's are wicked fun. I drove a friend's 91 Se 5spd flat white with HKS intake and cat-back and it was relatively quick.

    Good luck with it.
