do you guys think it would be possible to just route a bigger round or maybe same height but wider ovular tube the same route that the stock intake takes? that way you don't have to mess with the battery move.

Yep, there's a thing that you suggesting on ebay right now.......go to 89 accord.
you can do an intake without relocating the battery... here's a shot of my set up:

why not just leave it stock, fender air is excellent. bigger pipe wont give you a much better ratio of air intake, if that' what youre looking for, then maybe you should consider a weber carb.
