    Hardwiring a Radar Detector

Hey I couldn't find ne other threads about this so I started a new one.

    http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...atalogId-10101

I have the 99 dollar one.

To Hard wire it would I just cut the cig lighter thing off and just wire it to a 12v accessory like the radio or what?

    Thanks

It is 2 wires that are together, but you can separate them easily. Or you can take the plug apart and disconnect the wires. Usually 1 screw or a ring that screws off the front tip. Hook the wire that goes to the very front piece to + 12 volts, and the wire that goes to the metal pieces on the side to ground.

speaking of radar detectors, i wanted to get one and somewhat hide it. kind of make it built in you know. like put some led lights in the gauges or something so the detector is visible in the car. i wonder if i could do that. i'd like to make something like that work. i wish i had one anyway.

before you cut that 12v cig adapter off make sure there are no electronics in it that are used for voltage regulation or voltage conversion.

only problem i can see with wireing it in to the cigarette lighter output is that its always on. on my car anyway. like i can plug my cell phone charger in and it'll still charge while the car is off. that's in my 3gee. in my '02 accord, that output shuts off when you turn the ignition off completely.

hey guys, i dont know what the laws are where you are, but in florida, its illegal to "hide" your radar. we can have them, as long as theyre in plain view. I have mine mounted to the drivers side lower winshield, and have the power connected to the power mirror switch. just a thought.
