Is it possible to mount speakers in the speak covers on the doors? or do speakers have to be mounted behind those covers?

is your problem the upgraded speakers or too thick to slip in there? i had the same prob, just get a small pocket knife that has a saw on it (Very sharp saw) and saw the edge of it out and it will fall out. if thats not your problem, then i bet its possible to put the speakers outside of the covers, but you'll need some kinda material like wood to keep them in place or else they'll fall off the cloth the original cover is made of. hope that helps..

I was thinking that id cut a piece of 1/2 inch MDF and put it behind the stock cover, then mount the speaker thru the cover and onto that.
i put in my new sony's right into where the stock ones were. they fit right and sound just fine.
sounds good.

I saw a 3g at the mechanic the other day that had 6.5"s on the actual speaker cover. It looked good, and I thought about doing it as well. So I guess that would answer your question, yes it can be done.
