    Rebuilt my B20A Transmission!

I decided since my car is down to clean up and replace the seals and needed bearings on my F2K5 transmission. I tore it all down and bead blasted the housing, then cleaned everything in a parts washer. I replaced the axle seals, plug seals, bearings (from Japan that i purchase years ago), release spring, throw out bearing. Cleaned and tapped all the threads to make sure they were clean. I still have my spare F2K5 which i want to swap longer gears in since it is not ideal for a boosted car.

I painted it a while back to match my turbo B20A block which looked bad so i decided to strip it all down while its out. The LSD was a good purchase although at a price but definitely needed for what i wanted.

Rob, I really appreciate the care and attention to detail in everything you do. I can't wait to see the finished car.

Nice work! Is that a Quaife LSD? love the attention to detail need to do this to one of mine somepoint soon when I get a decent B20A built. Or even my Teg hybrid box could do with a LSD now and maybe some new 3-4th syncro's seem ok at the moment but I don't think they'll be last too long with the new power I'm putting down.

    Amazing job man!

Besides the rebuilt, taking the pain to clean the housing the way you did... fantastic.

    Re: Rebuilt my B20A Transmission!

All the seals were sourced in the US mostly from a Integra but all the part numbers on on here in carotmans thread. It was time consuming bead blasting it but it looks 100X better than the peeling paint. Plus i had some down time to get some of the low cost things checked off my list. On the flip side i will need a new clutch for the new build which won't be cheap but i will run a stock B20A flywheel this time rather than the light weight B20A5 Fidanza.

Yes me too lol...What kind of clutch you running now?? I thought you were running a stage 2 with the Fidanza flywheel

    Re: Rebuilt my B20A Transmission!

When i pulled it apart i noticed a lot of crud in the housing and found that my Clutch Stage 4 was overlapping the flywheel a little bit and created a high spot on the friction disc. I was running a B20A5 Fidanza Flywheel and CM Stage 4 setup so i don't know why it would overlap like that. With that said i did have a spring fall out into the clutch early on and CM replaced it no questions asked. So i think this time i will go to the stock B20A flywheel since it would not create the overlap issue i had. Otherwise i did like that setup but the spring failure was strike one now i notice this issue with the fidanza so im not sure what i will run for a clutch this time around.

    Re: Rebuilt my B20A Transmission!

BTW: I did not have any complaints on pedal feel with the CM stage 4 so i would not rule it out but given what i spent on the parts im not sure where i will go this route.

    Re: Rebuilt my B20A Transmission!

I do have a spare that is being rebuilt as well but that one seemed to have an issue with 5th and reverse when i bench tested it. I plan to try to swap in different gears since i find them to be to close for a boosted car. Its already torn apart but i want to keep focused on the chassis and the turbo build so i can finish it in my lifetime.

The biggest obstacle has been finding parts. Fortunately im a hoarder of car parts so i can atleast get this build done and have some spares but its not as easy as it was 5 years ago when i could place an order directly to Japan.
